so i just got my mpc 1000 about a week ago -- its fun - great -- perfect compliment to mycomputer/restofsetup (if i ever stop messin with the mpc)

but the question is -- is there a fluid way of recording live instruments into the mpc?

iv read all the timestrech bullshit stuff but im not intrested in that -- simpley in recording - say - an acoustic guitar riff and having it come out firmly choped at each end of the two bars ive made availible for myself -

im going to be dissapointed when you say no -- so --

if it cant -- my computer will -but - i dont want to do that -- i want loops being choped out in time -- even if whats going on within them doesnt sync up

Ill cut you some slack here and tell you.

you'll need a good mic.

You can either play and record into your mpc or computer

edit the wave so that you get the sesult ur striving for

or you can

use the search field the forum offers for more detailed instructions but...

nothing is going to be more detailed than...

the manual. :D

i don't know of any way to _automatically_ create a recording of eg exactly 2 bars, the way that ableton live or something does.

other than that, u can do it on the mpc, just record and then trim it, then trigger it on beat 1 of your bar or whatevr.
the trimming doesn't take long.

you'll need a mixer or mic preamp though, mpc1k doesn't have a built in mic preamp i think.

when i want to sample a guitar riff i just sample through my mic... its a beyer dynamic m88 tG and the sound quality is dope.. its like a 500$ mic though but yeah... i have the mic running through my console and into my mpc... i get a realy clean sound..u can do it that way and just trip and chop on the trim section... or if you want just do the same thing but record to the computer then transfer the wav file... seeing as you dont want to use your computer i figure the only way would be to mic it directly into the record screen as a sample onto the 1k.

here's what you can do.

1. get a beat going on the MPC
2. Mic or DI (etc) the instrument going to the mpc. (also, guitar pedals are really handy for on the fly recording of certain instruments without a mi*er or a bunch of equipment)
3. Get the MPC in record mode and jam along.
4. When you hear something you like, record it along with your beat into the MPC. (beat will play, but only the inputs will record)
5. Go to trim mode and extract the pieces of your recording you want and assign them to pads.
6. Play around and make music with your s*mples and MPC.

Since there is no latency in record mode on the MPC, if your timing on whatever instrument is good enough, then everything will stay together.

The MPC is severely limited without the timestretch and chop for this kind of recording, but the limitations seem to inspire people rather than turn them off.
