i have to disagree, maybe 5 or 10 years ago this is true but not today. the US did not get a medal in the last olympics. matter of fact the nba are going over seas to find players. on most teams overseas there is a limit of the number of american/foreign players that you can have on a team.

then again ask most players who did not get drafted yesterday would they rather play in the nba or on a foreign team.

the bottom line, from an african american standpoint the only way for us to make it as a people if you do not sing or play ball (football, basketball, baseball, etc) is education. period.

no i do not think that is basic because not everyday do you meet people with a B.S. , masters and work for one of the largest software companies in the world. i do not know how old Classic is but he started his tourney more than likely when he was 17 with his SAT(s) and finished the journey when he is about 23/24 with a job at peoplesoft . he had a goal, a plan (short, mid, long term) and he excuted it. he deserves his props.

when classis started college 1 out of 3 guaduate and when he started grad school 1 in 5 guaduated. you do the math.

my main point here is that if you "know" that you have to work why not make the most you can? so, classic figured out that with a master's degree he could earn more than a high school or college education. not everyone see that as a fact but it is (time tested).

fair play mate- i personally would have been a little patronized if someone told me they were proud of me for going to uni etc...but hey it's all good...

not trying to patronize anyone but i have traveled that same road and it is not easy. i give anyone who trying to better themselfs props. i have spent 18 years in corp. america (merrill lynch) and it is not easy to get there or maintain your position (there are layoffs every 6 months). in corp. america you must prove yourself each and everyday and that is not easy.

by the way, there is a different between going to an uni and graduating from a uni.

i was never good in spelling or grammar (thank God for microsoft word and spell check), i was a math & computer science double major. basically, getting 2 degree at the price of one.

but i do know if i had 3 pillows how many different ways i could arrange them without duplication or omission. this is a permentation question which you use in life everyday. this is the sh!t i like, solving problems.

therefore, weak in spelling and grammar but pretty good in math and logic, which has paid my $1723 in mortage a month and $9000 a year (which is $750 a month) in property taxes (that is $2473 a month just to live in my house not including utilities, car insurance, etc). plus, have not cut my lawn in about 15 years (i have the uneducated Mutha F*ckers doing that). i do not want to get into a pissing match with you cuz because we just view life differently.

just imagine a college guaduate not good in grammar or spelling (but with a degree in math, comp sci and masters) that lives in $500,000 house with a manicured lawn. that is some crazy sh!t.

Shit, I work for a major telecom company (that's about to merge) in the tech support/engineering department and I make 40k and thats without any degree!! I also own my house in a nice neighborhood (it didn't cost 500 G's though) So i would not say that formal schooling is the biggest problem in the black community. We are forgetting that a former drug dealer is now the president of a major record label and co-owner of a NBA franchise. I think the biggest issue we face is our obsession with fast money and sex (what comes first the chicken or the egg). Looking back now though, I would definately have gone to school if I knew then what I know now. I just definately would NOT take up sociology

anytime you finish a long term project/task it is positive. whether you majored in mis or math or englist or history or you went to a 2 year school or 4 year school, you started something and finished it. that is the only thing the counts.

in my opinion if you are utilitizing your time to become a better person that is what it is all about, becoming the best "YOU" you can.

I started off by stating my opinion and you had to jump in by calling me names and doubting my intelligence.
