60 MK I ,Screen problem.

Hi guys.I have a serious problem here.I was playin around with my 60 when suddenly out of the blue ,the screen started to fill with random letters , all mixed up and no sense.I shut off the mpc.I open it again and now the whole LCD was black.I mean the LCD was full of dark blocks with a frame of light at the sides.I shut the 60 and restart it many times.Most of the times the LCD was just dark blocks but some times a series of letters that don't make any sense appeared(as if someone from outer space was trying to tell me something ).But seriously , what do you think?
That reminds me of the Elmacaco -MPC60 Screen/Button Death- post at the Bible.But i don't think this is the case , because when i power up the 60 the -DISK button- light's up as if the 60 start's up normally.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I suspect the powersupply like the faq says. clean the power supply ribbon connectors with the unit unplugged. resolder the ribbon pins if you know how to solder, or just take it to a tech and let him know the PSU connectors are a common cause of this problem.

Thank's for the reply Elmacaco.I will have to find some kind of tech then to help me try it out.But if this doesn't work , what's next?Sell the 60 for spare parts?That's a bad situation.

Additionally i check for the cables to see if the are all good connected and they seem to be ok.To conclude i started up the 60 with a floppy in it , in order to autoload it.There was a slight floppy drive movement but no loading hapened.It seems that it isn't just the screen that crashed but the whole system.I don't know maybe the 60 passed away?

I had that problem on mine(those block) and it was just a fuse on the power supply...look for that just in case.

Ity's not a big deal, you send it to a tech, he fixes it, it shouldn't cost too much. If you state your location someone might know a good tech in your area.

Luckily i found a tech.We spoke over the phone and i will take him the 60 at monday.He said that he has fixed three 60's in the past , so he can give it a try.I consider myself very lucky because i live in Athens and not so many people own mpc 60's here.
Additionally if the problem is a fuse or the power supply , what is the normal cost to fix it?Because i don't want the guy to overcharge me.I am just a poor ba stard.

I don't know the guys name yet , but i will go tomorrow and i will surely post his name.I hope he can fix it.
But you did't answer , what is the normal charge for a repair like that (if it's the power supply problem or something else like that ).How many $ vst or forat charge for example?

No Idea as I fixed it myself, but be sure to tell him that this kind of thing happens when the power supply line ins interrupted, and the ribbon connector pins on the PSU board sometimes get bad solder joints. Most of these guys charge by the hour, and any time you save him (and the more tech savvy you appear) will help reduce the cost. If it is just the fuse the you should try it yourself just to rule it out. Most people around here chanrge $80 per hour. Hard or easy, it';s still time out of their day, that's what youre paying for.
