This used to be a major warning akai had out one time, God knows where it is today! oh well, (infact it also said do NOT CONNECT YA PC AND MPC TO THE SAME ZIP DRIVE)
to answer question NO, u can transfer via MIDI but that takes DONKEYS!
so you better to purchase a external usb zip and use that, though this is not good for u can run into corruption problems. 8 chars length etc.
the next best thing would be install a Card Reader. this will allow u better flexibility.
