I didn't do the install but I gave my computer guy the pics and postings from this site. This ain't cool, I got a lotta stuff on my HD that ain't backed up.

It's not a Microtech drive , but a Synchrotech PCM-CR-ID2IMUL 6-card reader.

You might have an ID conflict. Do you know what SCSI ID your internal drive is set to?

I found the problem, my SCSI (parallel port) Zip was causing the problem. It's last in the chain and once I disconnected it, everything else showed up. But since I have the multicard reader, SKIP a Zip!
Thanx for the help, though. And for reference, this is the reader that was posted by pt3r in a newbie post, if you search for synchrotech on the forum search it should show up. It's $54 bucks.

"The screen Shows Microtech PCD-45
Version = r3.1 "

This is the firmware I use successfully.

Normally you don't need to upgrade to ver1.2 1.14 does the trick.

If you have currently running OS 1.14 you'll be okay. Anything earlier, I don't know.

So to what id should the drive you want to boot from be set?
My HD won't boot from id2, zip neither from 5. Still using floppy, that's why i'm afraid to put in the card reader and ditch the floppy.

There a 3 ID's for this drive. I have mine set to 0,1,2. Just play with the different ID settings until you get something that works. Remeber to avoid ID 6 as that is the MPC's ID and will casue a conflict.

I have had my scsi card reader sitting in the box for like 6 months, I got it off ebay, no book, cords, jumpers, terminators, its a microtech, the only model # I see is DPAI-SCSI... looks alot like the pic on mpc-2000xl... any advice what to do with it?

will it work with no terminators or jumpers?

oh yeah and no terminator sticker on the bottom to know where to set the jumpers.

Does the drive look like this?

It should work, but you will probably need some terminators. Try it "as is" first and see what it does.

I will try it, is there a place to get terminators? or maybe make my own?

PCMCIA slot.

I'm using that slot with an adaptor for a compact flash card.
