sp-12 and 1200

1.Is there any site where I can hear the internal sounds of the SP-12?
2.Does the SP-1200 sample stereo or mono?
3.I hear you can pitch your sample up, then pitch it down inside the machine for more sample time, do you get past 10.4 seconds, or just 2.5 for a single sample?
4.Theoretically couldnt you just sample your loop in 1/4's so you got the first part in the first bank, second in second, then you set it up on your sequence so the 1st part plays, then the 2nd and so on?

1. Im sure theres a website with them on it, and if you order a SCSI HD from scsi4samplers.com, it comes preinstalled with the kits for the 60, 3000, 2000, sp12, and sp1200. However, why would you want the preset/stock sounds that come with the machine? sample your own.

3. the pitchdown trick doesnt give you more than 10 seconds of sample time, nor does it give you more than 2.5 seconds per sample. The memory of the sp1200 is set up on 4 chips that hold 2.5 second each (for a total of 10 seconds). The chips are not contiguous, so you cant sample longer than 2.5 by putting a portion of it on another chip. The pitch down trick simply crams a longer sample into smaller space, and thus, if you were to take a 3.5 second sample, for example, and pitch it up before recording it, you could squeeze it under the 2.5 second rule, and then just pitch it down. Mathematically, this means you could hypothetically squeeze out about 13.5 seconds worht of samples (pitched up) into the 10 second memory limit, and pitch them down inside the machine. Pitching them down inside the SP gives the a cool sound, a bit like ring modulation, sounds really nice.

4. Yes you could do that, as long as each sample is less than 2.5 seconds long, and the total is not more than 10 seconds.

And I wasn't aware that you could get a hard drive for an SP12(00) that's new to me. A word of advice from an avid sp12turbo user, efinitely invest in the 1200 the save time bogs down creativity!

yeah the factory disks.

I bought a SCSI HD for my XL, and it had folders preinstalled with the factory disks for each of those. The sp1200 folder wasnt even factory disks, it was lke one of those "sounds for your sp1200" disks you see on ebay.

the sp1200 samples in mono i use to have one i just sold it just recently. no you can not go over 10.4 second that all the time it has. and it only 2.5 second at a time i dont know much about sampleing in high pitch and bring it down but i do know alot of people just sample the drums in to the sp1200 and use the akai s950 i think it called to sample the main sounds then use midi to trigger it. its the sequencer and the way it samples that every body likes.

most people that i have read about use the s950 with it including easy mo bee, large professer, and i heard primo to uses the s950

are you saying saving your stuff to the commodore slows you down so much that it messes up creativity? dont you normally save the beat once your done makin it. i use a 12turbo and a 1200 and i wouldnt say the 1200 is worh 600$ more just for the faster save time. maybe you could pitch the argument that the double sample time is worth the money.
