A good idea to get lots more advice on this is to post the question in the right forum, like Production Techniques or for your model of MPC. This is a forum about searching for records.

But .... if your original sample is a loop or phrase you need to adjust the tempo of your MPC so the samples repeats cleanly. Then it will be easier for any drum sounds you add to be in time with it.

Go easy on em'...he's brand new to this forum...7 posts. He'll eventually figure out how we do things around here...remember the following: 1. post threads in the correct forums 2. search the forum before you post your question, chances are someone has already asked it and you will be able to read the replies they were given. It might actually save you time in the long run.

To answer your question though, watch this video it will teach you what you want to know.

He goes through bar counting and bpm setting. I hope this helps. What ever you do though don't make a habit of using that high pitched vocal sample stuff he shows you. That ish is played out!

This is how I do it (and this is not specifically for the MPC). First I sample whatever it is you are working with. Edit the the beginning point and end point (more emphasis on the beginning) to the best of your ability. Then record a 2 or 4 bar loop of your sample on a track. At this point the sample does not even need to be on beat, you just need for it to trigger on the "1" and "3" (if you made a four bar loop). Once it is triggering right, turn on the metronome and adjust the BPM until the sample loops perfectly. If it is not 100% perfect, make minor adjustments in your pitch on the sample. Once your sample is looping perfectly with your metronome, You can now add drums and anything else on your other tracks and it should all be in perfect sync.

OR.....

You if you have a PC, you create you perfect loop in Soundforge, the export to wav and import to Acid. Once in Acid, you can adjust the speed of your loop to whatever tempo you want (you can chop the sample if you want). The greatest thing is that when you change the tempo in Acid, the pitch does not change. Then export to wav again. Then create a PGM with your wav(s), save to disk, load in MPC, set MPC tempo to whatever tempo you used in Acid, create your loop or whatever on a track, then add drum etc on other tracks. Again everything is perfectly in sync.

OR.....

You can do it the old school way and match the tempo of your record to the tempo of the MPC metronome (or Drums if they are made already) before you even sample it into the MPC.
