I'm going to be joining the MPC family in a couple of days - I'm buying a second hand MPC 1000. When I pick up the wonderful thing, I'm going to need to check its in order. Thing is, I have no experience with MPC's, having only owned an s-20 and SP-202 (!) before. So, is there a quick test I can make (in 2-3 minutes) to make sure its not substantially damaged? I don't want to be at this guys for half an hour making beats just to be sure :P .

Pad / Slider Test
Hold SHIFT and sequentially press D, C, B, A

Bring a portable CD Player and make sure it samples properly

Besides the pads, sliders, inputs & outputs... make sure all of the buttons are functional. The card reader works properly with cards and USB.

Make sure the screen is working properly. MIDI ins and outs. That's pretty much all I can think of.

sequence a few long audio loops and see if you get any dropouts or other odd behavior

import a sample a few times and make sure the 1k isnt appending any weird clicks to the end of the audio file.

Check the os. Some things you might consider damage could be fixed by a os update cause they are bugs.
