PS. I moved the PC out the lab (2) weeks ago. I don't want any trace of PC/Internet or office related material in this peice! NO DIGITAL RECORDING ALLOWED!! I'm going to get a poster that says that and put it on the door - haha.

To all the people out their checking this thread, heres a little game for you. Since a few threads back cats wanted to start the "point out what sample you used game", I figured I'd build on that, and up the ante.

$10.00 via PayPal to anyone who can spot this loop. $5.00 if you can spot the break.

Btw. Thier is not trickery going on here. This is raw SP without mixing. So the sounds appear on the wax almost identically to the track (just with less crunch/ring). This should hypothetically make the samples easier to spot.

Ya'll got 72 Hrs to figure it out before the deal expires.

*Hint* The loop is a "needle to the groove" sample. If you got this LP, you'll spot it instantly.

Oh, and this isn't some oddball abstract loop like a Norman Lubeoff Orchestra record or something. It's definately identifiable if you got digging skills.

But the SP and the 950 are digital recorders....

Nah man, the quality of the file was tight, but I knew you'd have to fight on the mic setting. damn. talk about using quality mic preamps!!!

I can't believe you got the sound you got from the mic input, must have been tough.

^LOL. About 30 minutes of trial and error. The trick was to put the Mic input (in playback) in live mode, put the SP volume knob at like, 2 o'clock, and put the Mic Input (record) level at the second to last line from the bottom. It was peaking like that a bit, but o well. It was the only way to capture some sonic detail (ie. The clearity of the melody, crunch/air on the snare + kick).

LOL @ the SP/S950 comment. I KNEW someone was bound to say that. I was gonna be SUPER politically correct and say, "No DIGITAL MULTI-TRACKING".

Dfaced - I don't, thats how! I record to 1/2", 2", 1", Adats, or Maxxell Type II bias (dark grey tapes - 30 minute models), or commerical grade tapes if I feel like getting them. For reels, i'm all about Otari, for tape tapes, I use a Tascam 122 MKII.

When I submit beats to people etc. It's ether coming off the Adat, Reel, or Cassette.

The only CD player I own is an old boom box from like 95', the one in my PC, and one in my car for my wife (I got a tape deck in there for me).

its aight. I cant stand beats though that sound like they were recorded on a fisher price my first cassete deck. I know its "gritty" but that just sounded amatuer and shi**y like that.

^It should sound "amatuerish". It was not mixed in anyway shape or form. The beat consists of raw samples from wax, to Sp, to a Dell soundcard. I already explained that, did you miss the memo? I also broke down in detail the processs on how I recorded it. I didn't mention anything about Tape.

For someone who doesn't like poorly recorded Tape mixes, or "grimey mixes", I'm suprised you got a function called, "The Low End Theory". You know "The Low End Theory" was recorded mostly on tape right? Same with Brand Nubians Word is bond..

PS. **** that glassy bullsh*t. Even if this was mixed, I still wouldn't mix it to sound like I hit the mix with a 100 lbs. of BBE Sonic Maximizer.

Btw, Are you sure your not mistaken the sound of the crackle from the wax and the SP-1200's ring on the snare for the "grimeyness". Cause this sh*t was taken at 96khz 24-bit regardless of it being unmixed. Sounds clear as a bell to me. Pretty much captured all the detail that I heard through my headphones.

damn cant take a little critisim? Lil touchy? Just being honest homes. u can explain to me all day why ur beat sounds like ass, but it still dont excuse it from sounding that shi*ty. Also the low end theory is a production technique. The name isnt a homage to tribe, its more towards the theory of filtering basslines. And aint nothing wrong with hitting tape, but cats that hit tape aint making shit that sounds like it was recorded through a telephone. And i dunno if you are trying to say my music is "glassy". I dont really think it is. If you cant take critisim, except di*k stroking responses, then dont post ur wack loops.

Na, i'm not looking for you to stroke my ego son. And i'm cool with criticism, I thrive off that. Just make sure your criticism are on point. The beat was recorded on PC, not tape. Thats what I was pointing out to you. As for your new claim of it sounding like it went through a "telephone line" I gotta disagree. It's far from 22 KHZ 8-bit. Your entitled to your opinion though.

On the real, if you want to hear what a beat through a telephone line would sound more similar too, peep your "Sheeet" beat. And that was mixed at a studio? Hope it was a G4 w/ PT "Studio", cause it's AMATUER as fu*k.
