No I.D. - Common Sense - Resurrection Drums

No I.D.'s got some great sounding punchy-ass kicks, tight snares, and smooth high hats on this record. Some of the jazz stuff I've been sampling would sound great with samples that sound like these, but is it really the samples he's using or is the they way that they are filtered?

These are all factors that affect the sound of your drums:

I understand these concepts and use them on all of the tracks I work on. I always have tweaked my kits and samples with filters, compressors, and usually add a little distortion as well... but after two years of experiementing and tweaking my drum samples, I'm not finding any similar sounds.

I'm beginning to think that my sample library (which is very comprehensive and full of real drum samples) just doesn't have the right sounds.

Easy to say if NO I.D. ever just had drum break downs, but I'm not looking to just take his samples. I'm looking for my own quality sounds at the same time, and there's something super punchy about the samples that I have yet to capture.

Nevermind about asking about the samples - most of you have never hear Resurrection I'm guess and want to just post links to EQing, filtering, layering, etc. Trouble is that I do this already - so I guess it's just back to the drawing boards and a long search thru my own samples.
