I need basslines plain and simple and I'm trying to find the most economical way. Well I caught wind that this little bad boy was mad cheap. The question I have is how the hell does it work. How can I get baselines out of it if any. Can I sample some base from another source then play it out on the keyboard. Please inform me with everything you kow about this product.

And if the oxygen isn't the equipment for me then what is. I need baselines. I'm pretty clueless on what I need for them. I get my drums from records and such but it is damn near impossible to get sampled baselines because the are usually barried under all kinds of shit. So what are some options of products I could use to play good baselines.

If you're lokking you will find vinnyl with bass-artists... But i think synth i better.. Nicer and cleaner sounds, and alot more options.. But can you just buy some midi-keyboard, and the buy a bass-modul??

Oxygen 8 should be midi'd to the MPC. The sounds are triggered from the 8 and play out on the MPC. The MPC is therefore being used as a sound module for the 8. The bass samples will be samples that are loaded on the MPC. The 8 does not hold any sounds, it just triggers.

stasy,

i have the oxygen 8...and for what it costs..its a great convenience to me. Ive had the mpc for like 2 months..and barely know how to use the oxy 8...all I know is that I have it connected...I sample single bass notes from wherever...autocromatic assign them, and they somehow come out spread out across the keys on the keyboard. I can shift octave up and down...and for me..I can lay down basslines pretty well becaue I used to play piano. Im sure theres a better way..but its works fine for me. You can even use the oxy 8 to tweak the sounds(velocity, modulation., etc.). Its a good investment.

I have the ox8 too. There are no sounds in it, so you'll have to sample those into the mpc. Personally i prefer to play my bassnotes on the mpc pads. I can see why you would want one if you're a pianist or know how to play a keyboard at least, but if it's just bassounds you're after i would buy a cheap secondhand racksampler instead.
A racksampler will spread your notes over a whole keyrange so you won't have to create multisampled patches on your mpc, and it will have more filters and editing options than your mpc.
A simple sampler won't cost you more than the ox8, and i reckon it's a better investment. I have both, and almost never use my keyboard, and use the racksamplers every day.

okey, you can use the oxy8 with sounds on the moc, but can you connect it with any synth-modul??? How does that work? and you can connect it with any soft-synth on the computer, right?

i got the Radium 61 Key (Oxygen 8 bigger sibling) working with REASON
and you got a lot of choices of sounds for bass lines

Reason being expandable you can get additonal sound fonts and really funk it out

midi keyboard is pretty mandatory if you want to use a Soft Synth

M Audio Website
http://www.m-audio.com/products/m-audio/radium.php

Radium Features
• 61-note keyboard
• 8 knobs and 8 sliders assignable to any MIDI parameters
• Pitch and modulation wheels
• USB port routes 16 channels of MIDI I/O directly to and from your computer
• MIDI Out jack routes MIDI signals from Radium to control external gear
• Separate MIDI Out jack routes MIDI signals from your computer to control external gear—no separate interface needed
• Octave up and down buttons extend keyboard range
• Fully functional, 61-key MIDI controller keyboard sends all MIDI messages, such as modulation, pitch-bend, MIDI volume and more
• Keyboard doubles as a data input device
• Lightweight—easy to take wherever the music is
• Power the Radium with the USB port or 9VDC power supply

Soft Synths
Software synths are very much a reality—and along with them come dozens of parameters just begging to be tweaked. Radium lets you leave the tedium of the mouse behind and put your hands on any 16 MIDI parameters of your choice in real time.

Getting Deeper
Radium makes it easier for you to get deeper into your software programs. Unleash the full potential of your musical tools and push your creativity to the limit.

Live Performance
Radium gives you more freedom of expression on the stage than you’ve ever had before. And at only 8 pounds, Radium won’t break your back.

Programming Drums
Why take hours to program drums with a mouse? Now you can use Radium to play grooves into your software in real time. Then use the eight knobs and eight sliders to manipulate the dynamics, feel, effects and more.

Hardware Access
Synthesists can use Radium to put their hands on parameters normally buried deep within their hardware. Now it’s easy to express yourself without having to navigate through dozens of menus.

Virtual Mixing
Who wants to mix with a mouse? Now you can use Radium’s eight sliders to control your virtual faders. Radium’s knobs can also control pan, effects send amount and much more.

I'm expecting that keyboard controller to come in the mail shortly, and I am planning on hoooking it up to a proteus 2000 and a mo phatt sound module. What soft synth do you reccomend? is reason a soft synth? by the way i paid $200 for it, was that 2 much??

Hip Hop heads are using mostly Reason (Propellerhead), FL Studio (Fruity Loops), Absynth (Native Instruments) Sample Tank 2 (4.5 Gig Synth / Sound Module comes with 8 CDs of sounds)

personally I have FL & Reason and looking at coping that Sample Tank 2

Reason is the best out of the programs that I mention because its like buying a couple of thousands of dollars of hardware.

You get Synths, Samplers, Drum Machine, and a Rack Of Effects like Compressors, Reverbs, and Devices I haven't mastered yet like Sound Distortion.

Then to top it off all this equipment is just like real hardware. You can hit the Tab button on your keyboard and turn the rack around and unplug / plug equipment (devices) to one another.

I am telling Reason the shit!

Like anything, there is the good and the bad.
Here is the bad. Latency

I haven't experience it but a lot of people have a latency problem using Reason as a sound module with their 2000xl.

My sound card Soundblaster Live works cool with it though.
Just giving you a heads up on that.

And to answer question $200 for a midi controller is a good deal
if your getting a 61 Key.

If you paying that for the Oxygen 8 25 key, you paid too much money.
it should have been more like $129-$140 depending

You can do some more research at the above link on software synth

Reason seems to be the ideal synth if it is what they say it is. How does it compare with the motif rack? I'd figure its a whole lot cheaper and it brings more shyt, so I will be placing my order for that, but i thought that the 20 for the planet phatt was 2 good to be true, still it makes me kinda regret paying nearly 5 bills for the mo phatt sound module, and yeah, 61 keys is the minumum allowed in my low-end/bedroom studio as far as keyboards are concerned.

Motif Rack & Reason really are two different beast.
Motif Rack is basically the sounds you get with Motif Keyboard

Motif have those sounds you hear on a lot of people records these days.
I got a Yamaha PSR and I was actually weighing buying the Motif before I got Reason and the Midi Controller.

if you not on a budget i would get both
but before making a purchase like that
i would go to Guitar Center or a Music Store
who has everything set up for you to hear
what they both have to offer in person.

if you can't hear them at a store check the following websites

http://www.motifator.com/ got sample tracks people have made using the motif and reason demo songs are at http://www.propellerheads.se/

make the comparision for your self
