Assigning the footswitch to external midi device

Is this possible? I like to use the midi out from the mpc1000 to activate my korg kaoss pad2 (just triggering on and off on the machine) but as far as i can see in the manual it's only possible for internal functions of the mpc. Is there a way to bypass this somehow ?

What are u trying to do? sync the two machines are trigger sounds

sounds like he's trying to get the footswitch to send midi on/off info out of the MPC. I'm not sure this is possible...

yeah i want to activate an effect in the kp2 trough the midi of the mpc1000.

Hmm i just tought of this:

Since you cannot assign a midi message to be send from the mpc1000 by just simply using the footswitch alone, you use the footswitch to activate a part on the mpc1000, in this case a pad, and you assign the pad to deliver a midi message!

I've read in the manual that you can assign a midi note to a pad ( cc#92 is midi message for on/off for the kaosspad) so if i choose a pad to have a midi note cc#92, and assign that pad to the footswitch..would that work ? Or are midi notes and messages not the same?

Midi CC is different to notes, but you can get the mpc to send midi cc data, just not via hitting a pad. You would have to insert it into the sequence in sequence edit mode. That would mean that you couldn't really do it on the fly, but if you knew where you wanted the kp to be turned on and off you could do it exactly. If you're making a track using track mutes and just a few bars looping you could put your cc on/off on a different track and then you'd have a bit more of a hands on ability to trigger it when you like, but I guess it depends on how you work.

yeah i tought of that too, i do the same thing with ableton right now. But yeah i rather just use my kp2 on the fly then start a sequence.

If i made a sequence with only cc#92 in it, and another one with a clean midi message, then i should be able to assign those to sequences to both footswitches ? So i use one pedal for on, and one pedal for off. But something tells me this isnt gonna work..

You could only do that in track mute mode, which would mean you couldn't use the pads for anything else. The kp is all about hands on control, maybe you're just going to have to turn it on with your hand.

That was worth a chuckle...

i read on a thread the other day (can't seem to find it now) about this guy who said he used the footswitch goign into the mpc to trigger [sample] on his kp3 (which arms the kaosspad ready to sample) , and the pad bank buttons on his mpc to select the [a] [b] [c], or [d] sample store buttons on the kp3; he said he was playing guitar licks live and wanted to be able to loop on the fleazy. Is this legit? (because if it is i could really use that setup to mad effect, but theres nothing in the kp3 manual about it. I admit i haven't checked the mpc manuals (im running jjos1), but i suspect they wont go right into the detail of this - just give you a midi implementation chart and tell you to get into it: RTFMIC (read the kfc-ing midi implementation chart)
