hey,

I have an mpc2000xl with effectcard, 8 outs, and 32mb and I can get a flashrom for €325 (about $290), but I think I sell my mpc2000xl and buy a mpc3000 or mpc60 with a turntable and records to sample of it,
but is this whise :?: I know the mpc60 and mpc3000 have a couple less features but I want produce oldschool hiphop like N.W.A and dr.dre's the chronic and coolio etc etc.
the mpc60 and mpc3000 does look alot better than the new ones, what should I do? Iam a beginner, I have only an mpc2000xl with external zipdrive but wants something else.
If I sell my mpc2000xl I can buy a mpc60 and an turntable and some records, :?: :?:

Dont downgrade yourself to a 60 unless it's an 60 II maxed out. The 3000 is the best MPC hands down, but you can produce anything its how you use it. I have both the 60 and 3000, sometimes i make beats on the 2000 but the 3000 and the 60 to me feels more grimmy. It all depends on you kid. Cause the HEATMAKERS make the beats off an XL maxed out and they beats are type grimmy it self. Just listen to Dipset Anthem or Santana's Town.

Its up to you, its all about tunning your sounds after. ONE!

@ Swissmaster Cheese,

I'm sorry for yelling at you ,
I had a bad day @ school, so I'm sorry.

I can get a good deal on a mpc3000, and i think I get an mpc3000 with an s900/s950, for it's 12bit sound, so I get the best of both worlds.

Any other suggestions?

ps, sorry

I absolutely love my maxed out MPC 60. My boy has a 3000. I can honestly say that I wouldnt ante up the extra cash for one. Listen to a 60 with the 3.10e operating system in double-length compression mode...you will know what I mean. The 3000 is cool if you need the extra memory. I dont. You can combine a MPC 60 with an ASR X for the same price as the 3000. That is one of the blatently sickest combos you could ever want. You then have the warmth of the Classic Asr-10 and the 12 drums from the MPC and Linn sequencing software. (Not to mention the ASR-X's internal sounds if you need em)

If I was going to buy a 16 bit sampler... it would definately be the highly underrated ASRX or another Ensoniq ASR product. ASR X has some much better features than the MPC3000 (for doing hip hop) and its internal effects are akin to the ASR-10. They are great. Being able to assign samples to pads by just tapping the pad on the ASR-X is muuuuch less tedious than copying and renaming like you have to do on the 3000. The 3000 is dope but, remember its still a "Drum" machine. Chopping samples, filtering, and resampling w/efx on the X is much doper because it was built for hip hop sampling. You could get the job done with a 60 or 3000 alone. But for the money you are willing to spend, you dont have to. You actually "can" have the best of both worlds. Those are my two cents.

Peace

Sup!

Hey i used to own an MPC2000 and sold it, added some cash an bought an MPC3000. No not for the old skool sound (because it sounds almost the same, just a little fatter in the low end) but just because it is build like a tank!
If you want the real oldskool you need an SP12/1200. Nothing even comes close to that sound. But the cheapest way is just to keep your MPC2000Xl and add an S950. You will go al long way with that and it will save you $$ for records!!

Alway's keep diggin'

First off, I don't see how a maxed out MPC 60 is that much of a downgrade frome a 2000 XL. If you check Ebay you'll see that they go for about the same price on a daily basis. Both sell for anywhere between $600 and $1100. Secondly the 60 is far better quality than the 2000 XL, like it was stated earlier they are built like a tank. ( almost as big as one too, but that is a different post) I have a 60 and a 2000XL on layaway at my local Guitar Center. I like both, but I will still have to keep my 60 for sequencing. Don't get me wrong, the 2000 has a lot of great features. I love the fact that you can load .wav files on it. They are just not as durable as the 60 and 3000. Secondly, the 3000 is a 16 bit sampler, the 60 is the only one 12 bit if that is what you're looking for. Good luck, IMO you can't go wrong either way if you know what you're doing.

I bought an SP12 for cheap a while back so I can do my own A/B comparison from the 60 and 12. The low pass filter is cool on the 12, but I can do the same with the 60 with a few twist of the knobs on my mixer The 60 can hold it's own against the SP's. I started using a trick I read off a dj shadow article with adding vinly silence to make it sound a bit dirtier. That was a good tip. I wouldn't trade my 60 for a 1200. The sound isn't worth the trade off. Just my opinion.

Actually I dont rock the Asr X. I was just trying to be real about an often underrated combo. Often times on message boards you will find cats that promote the combo that they use. Whether it is to justify their own purchase, or to make themselves feel more important, or to win some "my stuff is better than yours" contest, you see it all the time. The same friend who has the 3000 rocks an ASR X with it. Its a nice machine, with a lot of features. He would often end up talking crap about his 3000 in comparison to the X. I had to make him realize they were built with for different purposes, and show him the strength in each machine. Now that he uses the 3000 for what it does best...and the X for what it does best...he is a much happier camper.

BTW. I rock an Emax HD and an Alesis QS6 (my baby girl) with my MPC 60 and I couldnt be happier. If I wanted to add another sampler, the ASR X would be a nice addition. (I dont need it at all though.... )

Cool....they are built for different purposes and each one has a strong point. The setup you got sounds tough. I wanna check out the Emax HD. I was looking into buying one a while back, but couldn't find any for sale.
