Honestly, I cant see how most of you nuts are complaining about the MPC 2kxl...I mean, dont you ever read anything before you make a purchase or do you just assume that a product will just magically sprout features once you've laid the ducats down?......I'm no akai cheerleader but I am happy with what I got since thats what i read about going in....I mean, why be mad at akai? I mean, they didnt advertise anything that wasnt already included with it.....I can't wait to see how much complaining you all do once the 1000 makes its rotation.....

you in the right thread Swiss? - I think we all LUV the 2000xl here - can't hear anyone dissing anything...

as for song mode, it just doesn't work for me, I don't like to think in terms of intro, chorus, verse etc but getting into a flow, building different layers, soloing, switching patterns and kits, working with the vocalist, working with the vibe... I'm a sax player oroginally so a lot of how I think comes from that. For recording I tryto make the decisions in real time live and edit and restructure different versions togther with samplitude but its PITA and would be so much easier if I could record, program and edit mutes on the MPC. In many ways the MPC is still the only funk machine I've come across which really makes sense to me as a real instrument (tho I do wonder about the yamaha rs7000...) i HATED sequencing on a computer (tho fruity loops is very nice)

I'd just love it if the Akais had a way of recording this realtime stuff, the mutes and pattern changing on the fly are by far the most important aspects of this and are the main thing that makes the MPC great as performance instrument - now if I could just keep those performances for later use in recording, well, my world would be a better place - I can't imagine this would be a masive job for Akai either, but maybe I'm wrong about that...

I'd pay twice the price for an MPC with full muting and pattern recording/automation

"Akai are loosing ground to the software market "

Funny you mention that. Most every softsampler company has laid off employees this past year. They are struggling also, but I do not see them releasing more and cheaper products to compete with hardware samplers.

A few of the industry insiders say that software piracy is killing the hardware market. Hardware companies can hardly compete with `free` software.

"The other MPCs are over priced"

As compared to what? The MPC2000XL is still the cheapest MPC ever released. It added more features and beat the MPC2000 price by a few hundred dollars. Before that, the MPC2000 was the most affordable MPC ever released. The MPC1000 is business as usual. Cheaper, smaller, faster. Eventually there will be a newer MPC that will be cheaper than the MPC1000. People then will saying the same things that everyone is say now ("MPC1000 is overpriced", or "The MPC500 doesn't sound as good as the MPC1000", etc)

Basically it doesnt matter wether you use fruity loops or reason or even a low end start up software like magix music maker($50). Its what you could do with what you got. If your a wack producer not even a fully loaded 4000 will save your production. I know people who use magix music maker that make better sounding stuff than most mpc users on this forum. Learn the basics.and stop bytching about a piece of gear. if ur wack ur wack, plain and simple. Seems like the only way most people could make hot music is by creating leverage. ie: "the mpc 3000 and 60 have the best swing" and "the 1000 will allow me to sync with my pc" or "just blaze uses the 2000xl". Then they end up paying $1,000 for a vintage piece of gear that turns out to be a vintage piece of shyt. Just because primo is nice with the mpc 60 doest mean you will. peace.

p.s. I am not directly critisizing anyone, just contributing.

Continuing my earlier post, the MPC4000 is capable of recording Track Mute events. You can edit these events after the sequence has been recorded in case you want to make adjustments.

This reminds me of another useful feature that might interest you. The position of the 16 Q-Link sliders can be configured into patterns. One such pattern is where the sliders are configured in alternating min and max values. When the sequence is played using this pattern you get a tremolo effect.

These patterns are unexplored by MPC4000 owners. I can see how one might create stuttering sounds and other interesting effects that have yet to be used or discovered. Combine the patterns with many effects, and you get enormous sampling power that cannot be approached by the other MPC's. It makes one wonder why people waste thousands on the old machines when this one has far more features.

There is a lot of room for experimentation with the MPC4000. It's high price, complexity, and a few bugs have kept this model from being recognized as the leading edge in MPC technology. The most significant factor seems to be price. If the best MPC4000 sold for $2,500 or less, and the lowest model MPC4000 sold for $1,500 AKAI would have a lot more customers for these models.

can the Q link sliders control sample start & end points in real time on the 4000 / 1000? in loop mode too?

dammit MPCP you mean I need an MPC4000 for mute recording happiness and an MPC1000 for gigging lighteness, and hell I don't want to part with my 2000xl just yet! I'm gonna end up very poor and like you man, with TOO MANY MPCs :)

seriously I'd like to suggest moving the mpc1000 threads to a new bit of the forum before too long so we can keep it all together.

Also, you mentioned MPC4000 bugs, can you give a quick rundown of these, or point me to somewhere I can find it? I think you said this product is troubled - What do you mean by that? How much should that worry me as a potential purchaser?

personally I can't make any of that software stuff work... I prefer hardware when it come to making beats and software for recording beats and sample editing.

A software beat machine... YuCk! And fruity loops get a double yuck!! I hate it...( I hate it because I can't make it work!!! :) and I am usually a software friendly guy!!! dANG IT!)

The new MPC-Tutor forums are being launched in a couple of weeks on a new domain name - I'll add an MPC1000 section then.

Sorry - had to bump this back up....

Just a couple of weeks after release in the UK, www.soundslive.co.uk have now dropped the price by nearly 15%.

Thanks so much for sharing that information Tutor. I would like to ask one question. Do you think that the price will soon drop slightly in the US? I'm considering purchasing one and I would be more than willing to wait for a price drop. Please respond.

I'm not sure as I dont follow the US market, but over here in the UK, prices always drop by around 10-15% in the first couple of weeks which is why I refuse to buy anything when it's first released - it's always best to wait a few weeks (normally get an updated OS by then as well)
