what would be the best piece of equipment to use in conjuction with an mpc 1000 to filter out sounds. example: like if i wanted just the bassline from song but didn't want the drums or other instrumentation.

I personally can vouch for the Akai MFC-42. I had it for a hwile and it is great imo. You can do yourself a favor and search the forums for 'filter', 'mfc42' etc to find alot of info...

I hope you dont have your expectations too high regarding what a filter can do. Removing individual components from a stereo mix will always have varied results. Your example is one that is likely to give poor results as typically a bassline will be in the same frequency region as drums; filters can only remove certain frequencies and they can not separate out instruments that are in the same frequency.

Sorry if you already understand this btw..

And yes, the MFC42 is a very versatile filter. Stacks of info on it in the archives..
