I skimmed for the highlighted things, i found this.

"I think that you can blame it on Pro Tools in that it hasn’t got the risk of cutting tape, which intimidated people and made people really think twice about whether they wanted to do it, whereas with digital you just throw it together and do it."

Hahahaha!!!! Good stuff.

but this is all engineer talk, bottomline analog aint gonna make shit music better, same goes for digital....imagination the shit people were talking when the moog and the sampler hit the scene....

He talks about the moog in there too. This guy was the engineer at Motown. read all of it, he also talks about what's gonna make your music better and it is probably the only thing I've heard that makes any sense at all. Risk.

Good post. Really makes u think that music is stagnating as a result of technology. His point about the 'magic' and capturing that performance put a name on what's missing in modern music. Guilty as charged....... and I thought we were keeping it real with the no punch-in rule LOL. uno

big up!!! real good read

I dug that part where he went on about riding the gain and following the breathing of the vocalist in order to get the rates right. India style :)

Homey, People have been saying this about Hip Hop production for Years. I can't count the times I've heard folks say: "Why don't these N*ggers play there own Instruments" :? Technology is just like your hand. You can use it to give someone a pound or use it to pound someone into the ground. The
Choice is yours...

Like they don;t already have it? ;)

Philly, he isn;t talking about Hip hop, it's deeper than that, and he's not dissing, don;t let your mind force everything into a simplistic view of things, explore the gray areas, you have the potential.
