Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000
By AJCT Wed Jul 13, 2005 8:04 am
I want to put the 8 in/out from my s3000XL into my mpc2000xl.. I take it this thing is the same as the mpc 8 in/out... I know I will have to build a bracket for the thing but I just need to know if they're compatable.

No, you can't put the 8 out card from the S3000XL into your MPC2000XL. The card for the S3000XL will not work in the MPC2000XL.

Oh yeah, everything's fine !
The ONLY thing is because the metal pannel of the S3000xl doesn't fit the 2K, the 8 output board is a bit loose ( when I plug a cable in it, the board goes a bit into the MPC ). But because I have an audio patch bay, I don't have to plug/unplug the cable that much.
I DON'T have any functionnal problem tho !
The sound is great and everything.

And check this out :
I bought the s3000xl for $300 canadian ( about $220 US ) and sold it back on e-bay for $150 US without the 8 output. It means the 8 output only costs me $70 US !!! I think it's a damn good deal :)

PEACE

Sorry guys
In my 10+ years working at AKAI here in the US, (thats right AKAI product support with IMC, AMIC and AKAI Pro US) i never installed the board from the S3000XL into the MPC or heard from anyone who did.

IMHO the fact that "the 8 output board is a bit loose "when I plug a cable in it, the board goes a bit into the MPC " could (not saying it will) but could run into problems in the future. If it ain't tight it ain't right.

Why would you want to rig your MPC like that when you could do the job right. The 8 out card is a small investment compared to what you spent on the unit.

BTW did tou see the thread where this same guy blew his power fuse trying to install the same S3000XL board into his MPC? I wonder if he wants to try that again.

Once again, I was just trying to help the guy get on the right track.

no one is mad at offering what u know dawg, its all good, this is a user thread, we are lucky to have a user like u on here that has "real expertise" on this stuff.... a lot of cats get it confused, thinking this is like a real AKAI technical support site... those types have life f..cked up

"The 8 out card is a small investment compared to what you spent on the unit. "

The issue is that the output expansion can be pretty hard to get at times. For some reason, many MPC user seem to think that cannot operate an MPC without the 8-output expansion, so they seek desperate measures.

I've covered this in the forums before, but since it appears that the search engine here is such a failure at times so not even I can find the posts I will mention it again:

The XL series samples (S3000XL, S2000, S3200XL) and the MPC2000/MPC2000XL share the same electronic board for the 8-output expansion. The difference is the mounting bracket (and possibly the ribbon length cable). It is possible to put one model's expansion in the other model without the mount (not exactly late breaking news as this has been done for the past 8 years that I am aware). But to do this requires using mounting nuts for the outputs themselves to hold the board in place. This works but is a far less superior method and more like an Alesis/Roland/Korg design than one from Akai.

At one time I recommended buying the proper 8-out for the MPC, but I have started to change my mind as it becomes harder and harder to find them. In fact, it is typical to find an entire S2000 Sampler WITH the expansion already for less than the cost of the MPC expansion alone.

Hi Nick.

Hey Mike,

Glad you posted that info. I didn't realize those boards were so hard to get.
For anyone that wants to try this, I have a couple of those 8-out sampler expansion cards I would sell real cheap.

are you trying to put the S2000 8 outs inside your MPC2000xl also?
