is my turntable dead or what.....3 main ?'s...

yesterday i was listenin to this lawrence welk record i had coppped.. n i would put the needle on the 1st groove to play the record...and it would jus skim across the record and get to the center and lift off like whne a record is finished playin... it kept doing that on and on.....

so i pull off the rubber mat and the metal plate...i saw that the rubber band was off....

1. is my table shot? how do i place the rubber band around? as my problem seems now that the table won't turn....

2. what is this anti skate stuff? aka what number should it be on? also wat about the dial next to the anti skate dial?(on the metal arm where the needle is placed on) it goes from 0 to 2.5, what should that be on?

3. if my table is shot what NEW table should i get? mainly want to use it for samplin needs.. but if i can scratch wit it..hey might set me off n another direction right?

all positive input is welcome.....f*cKKK it i'll take negative....

First, toss that rubber mat!!!! You don't need it. Get some slipmats.....

Second, what kind of Turntable do you have?

Third, has this happened before? Do you change something recently?

It sounds like your weight is off. From your description, it sounds like you have more weight on the back of the tonearm than you need. Try adjusting those settings.

It sounds more like bruh that your needle is worn away. It can't feel the groove.

well what you do is theres a motor that spinns you put the rubber band around that and the platter, but yoou need to make sure not to streght it to much cause then your pitch will be off.

this could be a few things

(first) check your needle to see if the diamond is still intact thats a little point on the end of the stylus that looks like a needle point,

(second) it could be your anti skating ;usually you want to follow the needle installtion requirements but heres a crash course take a cassette case put the weight on the back of the tone arm all the way against it; then set the number to 0 then start to turn it towards the inside till you hit about a full turn and a half then the anti skating control you want to set it around 0 to 1.5 it really depends on how the needle sits on the record you can usually see the needle pulltowards the spindle(the center thing) if that happens mess with the adjustments so theres no pull, you want the needle to sit on the groove and not pull towards the center you want it to have a lil resistance outwards but not much ,

(third) if that dont work then your tables phucked and you need to buy a new technics 1200.HAhaha

how do i correctly connect the rubber around? there's this gold spindle thing i see that spins... n i konw the rubber band goes round that somehow but how,pics? how's it make the record spin?

the only changes i did when i noticed the needle skippin across the record was that i took off the rubber mat and this big old grey/silver'ish plate? then i noticed the rubber band off...but how do i connect it?


i thought that rubber thang is a slip mat? get me info on slipmats n ish..

oh.... the platter is the silver thing you took off and the rubber band goes around that and streghted to the gold spindle thats turning

slimats = felt covers that are placed over the platter so that when you place your had on the record, the platter moves but the record stays still.

well it sounds like you have a belt drive table. Replace the belt. or go out and cop a cheap direct drive turntable. they have motors and no belts.

figured out what it was..when yall schooled me on the platter n that the rubber band went round it... did that n pi YOW my ish back an runnin n saved me like $200 bones i didn't have aka no need for a new table..

yeah you can but your going to have to practice like a maphucker cause those tables have a lot of bounce to the platter but you CANDOIT just practice, you might streght the rubber some or it will keep sliding off , you just have to keep puttin back on.
recommend you get a direct drive table, but shoot i started with belt drives back in the 80's , so you have to learn to scratch with belt drive,
anyways good luck
and practice practice practice...... thats the only way to scratch...

i don 't need anything else right? like a special needle or anythign like that? what about to play records backward..as in jus for rewind purposes?

n yeah my table is a belt drive one... whats the other differences on the motor tables?

i asume all the new ones are motor which means direct drive right?
