Would this set-up be a good one?

Hey guys, first I want to thank u guys. You've been a ton of help. Now a little about myself, I'm new to producing but not new to music, as I'm currently managing two producers out of philly. I've recently got more involved in the musical asspect of the industry and am currently planning on enrolling in recording school in NY to get my engineer certificate. I also want to produce hip-hop/rap/r&b tracks on the side. After countless night scouring many forums and websites I think I finally figured out the set-up I plan on hooking up in the coming weeks. It goes as follows:

-MPC 4000
-Technic 1200 Turntable
-G4 Powerbook Mac w/ M-Box and Pro-Tools
-Countless Drums kits i plan on purchasing and some that have been given to me
-Countless Vinyl Records and breaks
-Recycle for cutting samples
-And lastly Sampletank2XL

The type of production I want to start out doing in sample bassed later moving on to composing my own tracks. Basically will this work? Are the softwares and hardware I plan on using compatible? Do i need to look into investing in more software or hardware? Do i have pieces i dont really need? Any input is welcome. Thanks.

i would throw in sound modules and maybe a triton.

I would throw out the Mbox.

With Sample Tank, u can hold out on the modules for a bit. You need a keyboard controller tho...Sum monitors??? A desk? (Depending on the S/C u get)

What u listed is standard. Cant go wrong there.

I do plan on getting a USB Keyboard Midi-Controller...could anyone suggest a good one?

Radium 49 isn't a bad choice.It's fairly cheap but reliable.Also check for the Oxygen 8.A little less than the Radium but works just the same.

if you have the mbox, you will need a midi interface as the mbox does not have midi in/outs and also with the mbox, you will only be able to track the mpc, 2 tracks at a time as the mbox only has 2 inputs

Can someone help me understand this more? I dont plan on using my mac as a midi controller for my mpc, I plan on creating my samples on my computer then export them to the MPC. Throw in my drum patterns or whatever else on the MPC. Then bring it back to pro-tools and add effects, keys, or whatever else is need. That sounds about right, correct?

That's the point. when you bring it back to protools, in order for you to record what's on the mpc into protools and keep everything lined up (start playing the mpc at bar 1 and recording into protools starting at bar 1) you need a midi interface so pro tools and the mpc can communicate with each other. you see, midi is not just for instruments. the midi interface is to send instructions from one device to another device.

Thanks for the great explination. Thats gonna help me a ton. So would anyone like to suggest a good midi interface i could use? And with the midi interface, i can throw out the m-box right?

NOOOOOOO!! you need the mbox with a midi interface. protools will not work with any other audio hardware other than digidesign hardware and approved interfaces.

if you keep the mbox (which i suggest since you are just starting out) just get a midi interface to go along with the bmox and pro tools

They've helped a bunch but i try not to swamp them with questions about stuff like this. I could easily call them up and ask them but I'd rather keep them focused on the deals we have going at this current time.

One Last question and we can close this down as I'll be heading to GC to pick my stuff up, what Midi interface is a good one?
