does the mpc 3000(not LE) max out to 32 mb?

I know the LE does but does the regular Mpc 3000 max out to 32 meg of memory?

This is one of those rare cases where the manual isn't much help. The manual will tell you the MPC3000 is only expandable to 16 meg, they recommend an 8 meg memory card and two 4meg SIMM. However, you can pull out the 8 meg memory card and install a 32 meg SIMM chip, You can probably get the memory at VST in pasadena or Forat.
This is the same for both the MPC3000 and the MPC3000LE
AKAI never officially recommended 32 meg because the MPC3000 will only make 30 meg partitions on your hard disk.

This was a minor reason for not recommending the 32 meg memory upgrade.

The more serious reason ?

All MPC3000 operating systems through to version 3.12 have a bug in the sample memory handling section when recording a new SND.

Despite the fact that an MPC3000 can display it's available sample
memory in seconds as 378.6 for MONO and 189.3 for STEREO samples when 32 megabyte ( 16 megawords ) of RAM is present...

...The maximum recording sample time that an MPC3000 with any operating system through to 3.12 can correctly handle within 32 megabyte addressing space without having major internal drama with memory organisation routines is 327.6 seconds for MONO and 163.8 seconds for STEREO samples.

Operating system 3.14B worked around for this problem by locking the limits at 327.6 / 163.8 seconds.

Operating system 3.14 corrected this bug all together and reset limits allowing an MPC3000 to reliably access 378.6/189.3(STEREO/MONO) seconds worth of sound memory when recording new samples.
