Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

So, I have my MPC setup as the Master and Slaving to my Host Tracktion 2 using MTC and MPC sending MMC so I can use the transport buttons.

Thing is, it plays and stops fine but when I press BAR >> or BAR << it doesn't stop dead on the bar, it stops a few ticks before the begining of the next bar. I have done all the standard stuff like setting the tempos the same and trying different FPS MTC 24, 25, 30 rate but I still get this. If I change the Timecode to Seconds insted of Bars and Beats, the Cursor stops dead on the markers.

I have downloaded the Cubase Demo, and it happens in Cubase as well.

Anyone else seen this with their MPC????

I really would like this to work as I would like to use the transport to navigate around my tracks and drop in to record parts and takes etc.,

Any commments appreciated!!!

i believe the reason why it does do that is because that is what your controlling sequencer is actually reading at that next bar on whatever its controlling..... because if you try to record your MPC with it controlling Cubase, you can hear a difference in the sequencing, and vice versa

In what sense can you hear a difference? do you have experience with this? Is it because the Bar beats resolution is different so it just tries to skip to the nearest point???

Any help guys???

but u can hear the difference from different sequencers.... especially when making and tracking your own music

Different as in differnt timing or what ???

im not trying to be mean... but try it and listen for yourself, it differs such as rap to country.... all a matter of listening and determing for yourself... no sequencer is the same

No offence mate, but you have been zero help!! complete lack information!!! Infact you really don't sound like you know what your taling about....Sounds different???? Man, we are talkin' about MTC, and MMC something that is Science and should be EXACTLY THE SAME...now if your talkin' about the Quality of the bass, treble, etc., thats different.

Country to Rap??? WTF dude.. your saying you cannot explain the difference there? Mate...many difference which could be explained in words quite simply!!

If you cannot say "Yeah the beats where hitting latter on a sequence I recorded on Host A to say Host B" then your really have no clue what your talin' about..

YOU MIGHT JUST WANNA STICK TO YOUR FRUITYLOOPS DEMO!!!

the need an MPC class for your lame a$$.... dude anyone that produces knows that there is a difference in between sequencers, my thing was to you, to try all the ways possible that you are asking us about... production is about making music that you put yourself into... not what others think is the best way to make music.... lames like u come on the threads trying to get everyone elses choice about stuff instead of using your own... this is for questions about how to hook stuff up, if u want an opinion, holla at Musicians Friend or Guitar Center....at least i responded, no one else wanted to deal wit ya question.... my thing was trying to explain to you to use another master of another type of sequencer if you have one a available to see if u can "hear" the difference....besides just seeing it.... if you let Cubase Master it, you can hear the difference in sound, if you let MPC Master it, u can hear a slight or maybe a big difference, which can pretty much explain the difference in the timings on your sequencers... things like hi-hats especially, like 16th triplets, 32nd triplets, and so forth.....

Dude i have no idea why it does that. I can only suggest trying it with midiclock instead and see what that does? Maybe it has to do with the difference in resolutions betwn the 2 sequences.. i have no idea. But if midiclock will work.. i'd try that and see if it helps.. just a wild suggestion incase it does help bro.

There are several types of sync signals. The worst is via MIDI clock. This has an appalling resolution of 24 PPQN, plus it uses up midi bandwidth (ie, uses up some of the time that could be used to send other midi messages like NOTE ONs, perhaps causing rhythmic irregularities and syncing "glitches"). It tracks tempo changes very poorly. You can't record MIDI CLOCKS directly onto magnetic tape. You need some device that records a different signal on tape (i.e. SMPTE or FSK), and then on playback, translates it to MIDI CLOCKS. Of course, having to recreate the sync "on the fly" wastes valuable time that simply aggravates timing problems.

Another sync protocol is MIDI Time Code (MTC). This also uses up midi bandwidth, causing the same problems as MIDI CLOCKS. Although it can have a much higher timing resolution, it's still a hack that can't be recorded to magnetic tape, and must therefore be created upon playback.

In all honesty Madness you did say "Any commments appreciated!!!"

4dahaterz did initially post something, not sure what it was and it probably did not help, but it was at a minimum, a 'comment'.

it was an idea, didnt say it was an answer, if u look back to my first comment, it says clearly..."I Believe".... not that you have to... but "I" do...

Ok try again...

Anyone else seen this with their MPC?

I would really appreciate it if someone might try this with their MPC and HOST!!!!
