Summer NAMM Show Starts July 22
Moving to Indianapolis for 2005, the Summer NAMM show kicks off at the end of next week, and we'll be bringing you details on all the new products, complete with streaming video demonstrations. MAYBE THE NEW OS WILL DROP AND AKAI WILL SHOW THEIR NEW LINE-UP OF NEW GEAR. WE JUST HAVE TO WAIT AND SEE

I really hope they do drop the o.s. during NAMM!

Hopefully the MPC 500 will be introduced. If they release that, the MPC 2000xl will be discontinued and we'll get our update! Sounds good in theory, it better happen.

i hope they release a shity os update and then a mpc with a little better features at a similar price and then everyone sells their mpcs but the realist stay in tune withit and get an os update in like 20 months werd.

1. Do peeps just WANT a new OS on gp and not even realize WHAT an OS is?

Which one is it?

I reckon at the root of it all is "I want what the 2000XL's got, my machine is newer why hasn't it got what the 2000XL's got?"

Which amounts to zoning, sample reverse, timestretch and maybe track velocity.

Nobody demands some of the more advanced 4000 features because clearly they belong to the 4000 and it's perception as the daddy of the MPCs.

It is confusing, there's posts all the time along the lines of "1000 or 2000XL?" as we all know. Which is kinda odd given the age of the 2000XL. Some of it's features are really dated now. 32Mb RAM? I think my mobile (cell phone) has that much! It's a testament to how brilliant the original design was and how creative it's users are that it's still a viable bit of gear.

Akai haven't really differentiated between the two products well enough. In comparison the 4000 is clearly different from both. Perhaps it was always there intention to loose the 2000XL as soon as the 1000 dropped but their financial position didn't allow it or the management tier was too distracted, fragmented to know or care even!

I think it's also because it's an OS update, ie it's "code". There's a perception that code has no limits, anything can be done if only they'd do it. Whereas people clearly realise that making the 1000 24bit/96KHz would require different hardware so it 'aint gonna happen.

But it could get real exciting for Akai given their new ownership. Jack O'Donnell turned Alesis around. They were on their knees but in recent years have had two massive hits with the Ion and Micron.

Akai is so one to watch and maybe they'll start turning heads at Summer NAMM. I hope so, I love window shopping for music tech.

As for the 1000. Well it is what it is. Personally I think there will be further development on it but whether that matters or not is a different question. I guess, as Penfold always points out, until something drops for real, it shouldn't make any difference at all.

With regards to the 4000, it was dubbed intially as the DADDY of mPc's however as we know that went sour and has been ever since. The 2000(XL) has been the dominating force from day one, this is why you hardly ever hear much people asking about the features of a 4000 being in a 1000 cause they just have never used one or know anything about it.

What started this whole stupid wish was the review in that magazine, of which I might have to write a letter to and tell them to correct there misguided claim for it has run rampant within the MPC1000 community.

It is true that this can be possibly done in the code of the OS, but you fail to understand the business aspect, if you want those features buy a 2000XL, there be no point allowing the 1000 to have it cause no one would purchase the 2000XL.

Common sense can tell you that.

This is why we will not be seeing these features on the 1000, hence why its called the 1000 and not a 2000XL MINI or suttin.

Please I beg of you guys to leave this alone. Your only forcing yourself to believe something that is not true. This I can promise you.

the xl will no longer be made,once musicianfreinds,zzound,ams,turnkey,and many other,sell out of the 2000xl that it, ebay will be last place for and 2000xl, this were you do the math once that happen akai will drop the new os to boost sale on the 1000, they need to, with program like reason 3.0,live 5(coming soon),akai needs to stay ahead of the pack.
