Does Primo know about 3.10?

He made Hard to Earn without it. Cause that came out before RL ever created the OS. He also did Group Homes LP without it.. I hate the 3.10os. 2.12 all day, every day.

ur crazy... 5 second sample limit...deletes sequences when you sample again..no note off so notes wont stop playing...no chopping... the 3.10 is def. necessary and if there was 3.10 when premo was makin those tracks he would def. be using it...

^^ Not necessarily. Some people like the limitations present with certain OS versions. DR Period still uses 2.12 I believe:

"I use the MPC 60 just for chopping purposes. The MPC 60 only allows you limited sampling time on a pad. "

Though I couldn't imagine using anything other than 3.10. Hardware limitations are enough to deal with for me than to have to worry about software ones as well. And those limitations of 2.12 seem very annoying to me as butcher stated (no Note on /off, no chopping, etc) NO WAY!! I depend too much on these capabilities.

Then again if you're just using the 60 as a sequencer and trigger then the updated OS isn't really necessary is it? I mean, all of the sequencer functions are the same in 2.12 right?

I'm not a fan of the 3.10 OS other then the note off feature (I rarely sampled into the 60 though, I chopped in the 950), but that would be the only feature of any value to me (if used the 60 solo). I disliked the fact they switched up how you edit your samples. Not a fan of "zoning". Not a fan of all the endless assigning you have to do. To me in the end, it just slowed me down. I'll use ether OS, but I prefer the 2.12.

I agree with lo pass on this one. I chopped in the computer. then sent a sampling cable from my sound card to the 60. or used midi sample dump.

I just don't get how ya'll would be triple screwed either way. Like it matters. He uses a s950 too. He could have the first os and 750k ram, and it still wouldn't matter. And with a whole studio at your disposal sheesh..even with the limited sample time you could still track out a complex masterpiece. You just wouldn't be able to track it all at once, and have it saved on the same floppy, etc. etc.

I love the new OS 3.10e. I just wished that Roger Linn would have left the sample dump feature intact. O well I guess you cant get everything

First of all:

Sources explain that Premo only used the mpc-60 as a sequencer/midi controller......he sampled and chopped in the s950 all day. Why do you think 90% of his beats are just dope fukkin loops and hard ass drums. Premo is a mastermind behind simplicity. Bottom line is, you're beats are only as good as your samples. Premo had crates for days and some of the illest records in the world.

I disagree with the 2.12 OS being better than the 3.10. The 3.10 is the mpc-3000 OS which made a lot more sense and was redesigned specifically to cater to the needs of a producer working soley with an MPC-60. Either way the 950 had the same channel cut off and being that Premo started making beats on a sp12Turbo he used those skills on the 950 as it works in a very similar fashion: ie: same channel note interruption, loop function etc. Take a listen to : TAKE IT PERSONAL 1992 on the DAily OPeration album. Those drums and samples are muddy, flat and dirty complimentary of the 950's adjustable sample rates.
