has anyone had this problem??????

my external zip drive for my mpc won't work with it anymore all it does is this clicking noise went to a computer surplus store and got another one and it did the same thing my rom drive works and my floppy drive works if anybody kows anything please let me know

Its your disk man....trust me...I bought another one too.....but it is the disk.....

Your getting the click of death...your zip might be fried dawg.

Your zipdrive, not your zip disk...your zip disk is a cup coaster now. But if you don't get rid of the zip drive it will eventualy kill all your disk. Trust me Its happened to me with an external zip 100 drive. If you must use a zip drive try to get a zip plus drive. It was made after the original zip drives.

i would try a different zip disk.

i would make sure the scsi id is correct.

i would make sure the terminate switch in the zip drive is switched on.

i would make sure the scsi cable is seated securely and the pins arent bent or missing.

since you changed the zip drive to no avail, i would try another scsi cable

if all this fails

i would look into what some call the scsi fuse.

Well the drive powers up obviously because it is making the clicking noise. If it was working before and stop all of the sudden then it has to be the click of death problem which has been happening to a lot of zip drives. You could of also purchased another used zip drive with the same problem. Most folks in a computer surplus store don't even check for this stuff. They just buy a lot of them and plug them in. If they power up they assume the unit is working correctly.

man...I've had that click, only to find out months later, after I took the zip drive apart, that the problem was with the disk.....

there was a class action lawsuit against iomega because a lot of the earlier zip drives were doing that click of death thing.

happened to a jaz drive i had back then. ive gotten it on a hard disk or 2 as well

could be the disk too though, cuz it can happen to a zip disk or a zip drive AFAIK

contact IOMEGA via there website they have a 24/7 live support and will replace your ZIP DRIVE and any faulty disks free of charge... I KID U NOT!!
