Dre Records through an alouge mixer (the SSL G-Series, a very famous and renowned mixer) beacause of the quality of its circuitry, mic and line preamps, and channel strips! theyre all top quality and give recordings a certain character or warmth (the analouge feel).

From there he records srait into Pro-Tools, and then brings his stuff out of protools (the Audio outs of whatever Pro-Tools system he is using) back into the SSL for mixing, agen, to use the high quality preamps etc on the SSL to give it that quality feel and finish!

As far as analog having a better low end, this is true. You take a Lil Jon, play it at 10, and my Black Moon will hit the same at 8 on the low end. Neve boards are so expensive, because they are top of the line. Combine Neve boards and pro-tools then you got a good combo.
