Multispamples / couple of questions

hey guys,

the Multisamples for sale on this site sound great and I'm going to recommend that my friend purchase them (she has an MPC2000XL, I don't)

a couple of questions though...

1) regarding playing keys and bass with the MPC pads - is this desirable? is it realtively easy and fun to do or is a MIDI keyboard much more preferable?

2) I was reading in this thread; http://www.mpc-forums.com/viewtopic.php?t=11943 that MPC Tutor uses a $30 midi controller, is something that low priced a good companion for the MPC or would my friend be better saving up and getting a $250+ MIDI keyboard/controller?

3) Finally, the Multisamples on here look great to help my friend get up and running. say however in a year or so, she was looking for new multisamples - how would she make her own? would she sample evey note in the keyboard within a certain octve? what about if she wanted to make an accoustic guitar multisample?

1. the mpc uses a GM layout, so the notes are all over the shop by default.. You have to use auto chrom feature to chromaticly re-assign the pad note number in order., so then you can use the pads on an internal multi or midi instrument, and play it back properly.

i do all my bass and melodies with a midi keyboard hook'd up to the mpc, mine cost around $150 but you can use anything thast sends midi, its all personal preference really and how much money you wanna spend.

It's easy to make your own if very time consuming. My ebook goes into great detail regarding all the different techniques, but basically:

reorder the pads into chromatic order
sample 3 notes per octave over 5 octaves
use the tuning setting to make up the missing notes
mess with the velocity>attack and filter tunings for reality simulation
loop your samples
hook up a MIDI controller and play

You can use the pads, but a cheap MIDI controller will allow mopre natural playing with wider note variation.

Regarding acoustic guitar multisamples, these are on their way...

I bought your ebook the very moment my friend won her MPC on EBay - it's an excellent ebook (I also boughthe EQ and Drum Layering ebooks too).

thanks for the info regarding MultiSampling one other questoin about it regarding using Multisamples... when we buy say your Keys or Bass Multisamples - how long do you think they should last until they are played out? To word it better, if we are creative enough could she essentially use them for all her keys and bass for 50, 100 or 1000 songs or would it be better we switch it up more? I mean, some people probably produce song after song withe same acoustic guitar and grand piano so we should essentially be able to do the same with these Multisamples right or wrong?

as far as the MIDI controller, what model do you have? It will give me an idea of what to look for when helping my friend with choosing hers
