Rohan:

You had mentioned in another post that you would consider accomodating some respectable wishes for a possible update to the current mpc-60 3.10 OS.

Well here is mine:

I wish for the hi-hat decay slider on the mpc-60 to be utilized as a way of controling the digits in the START and END points in SOUND EDIT mode. I think this request is best represented by the Sliders on the SP1200. I've never been able to truncate samples on any other machine with such ease and speed as I have on the SP. With that being said.....is it possible and wouldn't it be just a matter of adding a few commands to allow the user to either use a knob or the slider to adjust digits in higher or lower increments?

Make sense? I hope so and thanks so much for your time...........this would be fantastic!!!

If this is not possible by us can we petition Linn to do another simple upgrade or do they have to reissue new rom chips?

Man just thinking bout how easy it would be to truncate samples by using that slider makes me restless.

Let us un-cross the wires here a little bit.

I never said I was going to be coding a new OS for the MPC-60.

Well, not for the moment unless some thing in the world changes big time.

So with that in mind there is not likely to be another update done to the MPC-60 OS ... well not by me anyway...

Peace,

Rohan.

The MPC-60 is "program memory space challenged".

"An update wouldn't be impossible.

From a bug fix point of view I am certain there are a couple of things that could be squashed. Elmacaco found a few memory handling issues a while back.

As for feature changes. A decision would have to be made about which of the current features would have to go in favour of new ones.

I'm sure you all know that the last time an MPC-60 update was released that you lost two features... The HELP MENU and SAMPLE DUMPING.

Just bare this in mind when making up wish lists for a project that may or may not become real one day.

Rohan."

I WAS JUST LOOKING TO KNOW IF THIS WAS A FEASIBLE SCENARIO.....obviously. That is my true question. Would something like this be possible? IF so....I will start a petition for new updates on the 60.....i mean c'mon the OS 3.10 for the 60 is from what 1998?

Man i like that idea. Let me just add track on and off with the pads to the wish list too. Heres an idea, have a feature where you can program for example a set delay and every time you hit that certain pad it writes the data to seq for the delay you created. Something you can turn on with sounds-2 for a particular pad.

There's this thing called PM's.

Please use it when shouting out to a single person, thanks.

That'd be dope as hell too.....set a manual delay effect.....we can call that one repeat delay or something. So when you hold down the repeat function the mpc-60 would replay the notes in varying adjustable velocity.....like maybe play a note 8x before it completely fades.....its dope....I like that.

Damn we already have 2 FANTASTIC UPGRADES!!!

Keep 'em comin' and we'll have someone like ELMACACO who is very literate write us a petition to ROGER LINN DESIGN.

Thanks guys.....

Nah, no need, it's all good.

He came back with good info that everyone can use, that's why I left this here.

It's good for everyone I was thinking.

And the MPC-60 is from 1988, almost 20 years ago. I think we should be happy that we even got an update in 1997. I think that the update is fine as it is and doesn't need further revisions.

There are workarounds to pretty much every issue that you may raise about OS 3.10.

I only wish this thing had file folder management like the 2000XL. I like to organize my shit, but again, I work around it.

As far as the slider thing for the START/END points, that's a personal thing. I personally hate using sliders to adjust edit samples, it's just not accurate enough for me.

The delay thing, use step edit for that, real simple. It may take longer but it's a workaround still.

But I hear you though. I think we all have notions of how we'd like the MPC60 OS changed to accomodate our needs. And therein lies the problem. What's desirable to one isn't to another. What one may think is important is trivial to another. You can't please everyone.

exactly....that's why I wanted to incorporate it as an option for users that wished to consider using the slider as opposed to the knob. Speaking of that knob.....I donno about you but my shit fell off 2x. I had to superadhere that shit on with super high tac adhesive tape.

No wonder you don;t like it!! Get a replacement man, Forat should have hooked you up on that tip.

Anyhow, Linn isn;t gonna do another OS, it took him about 3 years to do this one, and he had the help of akai back then writing the OS for the 3000 and could talk to Akai's coders. he clearly states that no further upgrades are planned. and Honestly, 3.10 is so good, would you pay another $300 to get a few little features? Maybe oneday he'll make it open source and people will hack it in fun ways, but it's doubtful.

I can't believe an OS like this even exists for a 12 bit machine, I count myself lucky, Bassline is right, just use it and don;t worry about adding this or that, we're all a day late and a dollar short when it comes to that.

if anyone really wants Rohan to do some update work, send him an MPC 60 and some 3.10 chips and he'll see what he can do when he can, then he'll let you know what is possible and then, MAYBE, you can get excited.

yes everyone, please calm down...

id list some reasons as to why this is just a fantasy, but elm already said what needed to be said...

that was a good idea about the note variation slider though... too bad it aint gonna happen...
