Static on my MPC

Do a search on "SIMM", there have been a few other people w/ this problem.

Thnx nikenn. u sound like u clued up! Turnkey have sent off the MPC to fix the problem but they say it could take up to 2 weeks cos of ques and s***.

thanks for this thread guys. i developed the same problem today, although it came along gradually. my machines ram was maxed out about 2 years ago. a couple weeks ago i noticed the sample time dropped from 189 seconds to 106. i didnt worry too much about it. i started noticing static in the beats yesterday. today i tried to troubleshoot the static & after reading this thread about bad memory being a possible cause i took out my ram & what do you know.... audio is crystal clear again!!!

do you guys think my ram got corrupted or just gradually died out? any suggestions on where to go to get ram that's definately compatable?

for the record, i have a 2kxl with the floppy. its probably 3 years old now

I've had this on my 2k xl before... Problem was when I filled up the 32mb or was real close to that all samples had static. So if you went to the trim screen you could see the clicks and sh!t. After somethinking I guessed it must have been the 2nd mem stick that had some errors in its last sectors. Got new sticks and all was fine.

i told tha damn ppl at turnkey that it was prob the SIMMs causin tha problem. but they insisted on sendin it off to be looked at assured that it can't be defective SIMMs...they obviously think too highly of themselves to admit doing a whack job!

i'm still waitin for my beloved MPC to return!

That's why I suggested removing the chips (if you installed em yourself) and testing with the 2 meg onboard memory. If the static disappears, then try a different brand or type of SIMM.

i too have the same problem and i too have an mcd which has simms i installed my self...i removed the simms and i still get that static noise...so it cant be the ram.....i installed the ram my self, tested it and every thing was great....next day , all my samples were full of static......like i said, i tested it wit no memory sticks, checked my cables and everything else but its the mpc

yeah i got my prob sorted out. it weren't the SIMMS. it was the mother board which was the problem....needed soldering i believe. but mine's workin fine now. jus send urs bak...hopefully u still got the warranty and u didn't buy it on eBay!


PS: dnt take it to Turnkey....u might not see it again!
