DJ Times: Alright. Before we explore your schizophrenia, I was wondering about the production of the record. You were behind the boards for this one. Do you have a preference for a particular drum machine?

Kool Keith: I use the Akai mainly, and the MPC-60 sampler…and the rest is all me. I don’t use the average Top-40 equipment to make a record. I think I use a lot of things that maybe a lot of the drum-n-bass kids be using, or the techno kids. It’s not like I’m using the same equipment that the industry is using.

haha, that sounds exactly like some rapheads' studio. Apart from the terrible console

dated 99, I wonder if he had the upgrades?

I read a more recent interview for the truck driver thing he did and the 60 was still there. They talked about it like is was central too.

Elm - That setup I just kicked ya'll is current 2005. Thats a fact.

C.Toon - Word. haha. D8B was big sh*t in the late 90's. THX SOUND! George Lucas endorsements! Haha. It's a descent board, but I could think of quite a few other options I'd throw my 3-5G's at. (ie. Trident 65, MCI 400/600 series, Soundtracs CM4400, Harrison Pro console(s), etc.)

Btw. For those who like useless trivia, Premo and them rock a MCI JH636. You could get a pair racked up for under a G off the bay. Just FYI for those who want a big part of the D&D sound without spending all the doe. Don't get it twisted, they were using Neve Prism EQ's and Pultecs too, but from the mixing console sound standpoint is what i'm saying.
