It says in the manual (which I have read ) that the MPC should be off whenever connecting devices. So, when its on, is it damaging to, say, take out the 1/4" jacks from the stereo inputs and replace them with another pair?

this is this kind of stuff i have gotten paranoid about after losing some stuff a couple times.

You're not going to lose stuff unplugging audio cables. Power cables maybe, but not audio ones. The worst thing that will happen is there'll be a thump, although this could be a problem if you're running through a big PA.

Also don't eject the CF card while you're loading/saving.
