Zip disc problem....SOMEONE, ANYONE...GIVE ME SOME ADVICE!!!

i PUT MY 250mb zip discs in the zip drive the other day and it gave me message saying that my zips are in error....the last time this happen and everything was completely erased, was when I was first starting out and i put my zips on top of my speakers.....when I went to go use them joints all the whole thing was no good....cause I didn't know that the magnet in the speaker woudl erase my entire zips....anyway, that was then and this is know..and I swear I don't have a clue as to why a few zip's are no good anymore....and these joints I use frequently...can someone help me out please.....thanks

its no that the data was erased, but the magnetic disk inside the Zip it self had been corrupted. rendering it useless...your going to have to either buy more and contact Iomega's customer service and ask for replacements.

so then why did that happen.?.is it something that i did are what....all I did was just put the zips in thedrive....and everything is just corrupted??.....I don't understand...HOW CAN AVOID THIS FROM HAPPENING AGAIN? THATS THE KEY QUESTION!! I REALLY NEED TO KNOW THAT!!!

i would call iomega and ask them whats the best way to store zip disks. i would also ask them what are common problems associated with the disks.

i dont think you'll find an answer to you question here. nobody knows what your setup is like. hell there might be a powerline or some sort of interference type shht that is causing the problem.

catz here didnt design the disk. disk corruption is an unpredictable occurrance.

my best advice is to call iomega.

Okay..I will respect that.....i will call them up and see whats the deal....I jsut figured that being that Im using my zips solely for the production of music and my MPC that this would be where I need to be to find my answer out.....i don't if they know about producer problems at iomega..they probably just know about their disc problems or whatever...feel me?...but i will give it a shot....

sounds like you doing everything right. you just may have a batch of unreliable disks somehow. it happens. one minute shht is working perfect the next you lose everything with no explanation.

if this happened to me i'd fkkin stomp out the whole zip drive and zip disk.

i keep all my zips in the plastic cases they came in. and my mpc is sort of isolated from the rest of my gear. and its on stand with the zip drive attached to the side.

btw- did you lose everthing? do you have backups? are you aiight in the sound department?

it been said before and i'll say it again, zip disk suck balls and there too unreliable for the road ( too many moving parts ) do yourself a favour and upgrade to a card reader. save yourself the heart ache of losing your beats.

I'm co-signing that, look... I don't know how serious you are bout you music, but loosing my beats on disc is my worse nightmare. I would also recommend getting a card reader. They store more data and are extremely reliable, and are more faster and quieter in operation than zip disc's. My last point is ALWAYS BACK-UP DATA ! Its got to be routine. Good luck!

Antboogie560, what i meant the first time is if you are using the same zips that fuked up the first time then they will always be fuked.

If you read the inlay card of the zip disk it tells you the best places to have then safely stored.

your best step is get a MCD.

Okay fellas....i get the drift to answer emfinite's question....I didn't lose entirely everything..however, i did lose some crazy sounds that I coped from some other c'd and what not...that was a tragic lost but Im always needed more sounds so holla at me and let's see if we can make that happen......

now...for everyone.....u one of you would have to explain to me exactly what a card reader is and how do i use it....I have just been dealing with zip drives this whole time....so if it would be more beneficial for me to upgrade to something that is worth it than I will...so someone enlighten me so that i possibly can make that switch if necessary!!
