Software equilvalent to ASR 10

I'm just wondering. I read alittle about Kontakt & Intakt also Mach 5. The only reason I ask is I know the ASR 10 has an original sound, but considering these machines are what like 10 or 12 years old makes me really weiry of purchasing. I'm kind of interested in something that I could really freak my samples with. Right now i own a mpc1k, Emu mk-6, pc w/ Acid 5, Reason 2.5, and Pro tools, and a radium 61. I thought i would post this to get some random opinions. You guys are basically the only producers, and Beatmakers that I know that have way more experience than myself in this department. The only thing that has me torn is the good feedback that I have read about the ASR 10, and what you can do with it. Any purchases wouldn't be made unitl tax return time, but I jus wanted to do some research first.

Cool thank you. Well it looks like ASR 10 it is. I'm figuring this will be a good combo. i really didn't want to go software, but at the same time getting older gear is kinda risky, only because of age. Most likely I'll get the rackmount version due to the fact that i already have a midi keyboard version. Some ppl have mentioned stuff about heat issues. Is there anything I should do while using the ASR. I've heard of ppl using fans to keep it cool. I might purchase early if i see a good deal.

you should look into konkakt. Its not close, but you should give it a try. It has better filters, but not the ASR-10 sampler sound, but good effects and filters.

Yea I'm not in a rush, but just want to hear what other ppl have to say about this. I'm not stressin the ASR 10 sound that much. Just what it can do. As far it being a full fledge sample using all the synthesis and effects to control and manipulate the sample. Yea i'll look into kontakt some more it seems really good. Thanks guys for you input. I personally would rather have a computer w/ software then an asr 10 . The asr 10's fx r digital as well not analog. Is your question "Is an asr 10 worth purchasing due to the fact that there are software equivalents?"

I asked a similar question in the ASR 10 forum and got no response so i figure software is superior. Reason's nnxt, nn19 can do way more then the asr 10 's sampler.

money, just get what YOU think YOU need, NOT what people have hyped up!! It's trial N error man. When I was coming up as a producer we just got the equipment, and used it the best we could, if it wasn't worth keeping it was sold! I for one still use the ASR 10. Many of the producers I know use them also (professional use). You will NEVER know what piece of gear is for you unless you USE IT!!!

OPINION: I have NEVER seen an equal piece of software that matches the ASR. They may have MORE options but not more to offer!!! And if you want a more updated piece, look into the V-Synth. It takes the ASR style to another level.

Thanks guys. i'll take what you mention into consideration. i don't want to get a ASR because Kanye has one or Alchemist uses one. I know alot of these cats use it because most likely they got it when it first came out, and they are comfortable with it so why change. I'm not tryin to ride the hype train either, jus trying to get some kind of general consensus from other ppls trial and error. i might get an asr and if doesn't work for me, then I'll sell it, but then again when a school discount you can get software for about couple hundred dollars cheaper so instead payin $470 for kontakt i would pay about $270. But will see I have some time to do some more reserch before i buy anything. i'll let you guys know what i end up getting.

Whoa someone up there said Kontakt has better filters than ASR 10? Not to my ears.

I think by better filters he was meaning more options, or more filters than the ASR, but I'm not sure. Either way I've decide not to worry about either one, and just focus more on music than what I'm using to make music with. I figured I have plenty as it i so why buy anymore gear. Plus most of my bills are almost payed off, and I will be moving in a couple of months. So I will need money for that. I'm Basically just gettin my priorities straight. Yo this was a good question Metaphor. I'm looking for something that does what the ASR does, but is a bit newer, more computer compatible, not as likely to get broken. That V-Synth seems nice but it too pricey.

To be honest I'm messin with the demo as we speak, and this sh!t can do alot. I imported something I sampled from some vinyl, and tweaked it all out in Kontakt this sh!t sounds crazy. It seems like you could a whole lot issh up in here. Of course then not sayin the ASR can't do the same thing, because i have never used one myself. But this program seems pretty cool. The v-synth is pricey I agree with you on that.
