Curious about a sound I heard on two different tracks

I've been listening to LONS - T.I.M.E. a bit lately and theres this sound that the producer (anyone know who was on production for this?) used for the track Time Will Tell. Premier used the same sound on "The Realness" for Group Home's lp. I don't know of any other tracks that have it, but I was wondering where it comes from. For those that don't know what I'm talking about but might take a listen to each track, its the kind of dark sounding sample. I don't really know how to describe it, but you'll hear it if you compare the two. Its on in various parts of Time Will Tell and I remember it being on the start of The Realness.

BTW, I know what people think of A Future Without A Past.. Does anyone think T.I.M.E. is slept on, or unaccepted by the masses (possibly cause of the contrast to the debut lp), kind of 'misunderstood' for what it is in a way?

As my boy 'Uncle 4000' stated...the sample used is from Bob James but alas...its NOT from 'You're as right as rain'...Its actually from "Valley of the Shadows" which is track number 1 from Bob james 'One'... A very Dope introduction to uncle Bobs Work!!!

Dude even sampled it from the vinyl cos if you listen at the start of the Group Home track...you can hear the crackle repeat when he re-triggers the sample.

His Albums entitled one,two,three, & four(4) are some of the most classioc that Hip hop ever had a share in.

In fact...i suggest you go to Amazon & pick up his anthology on CD(If you cant find each album on vinyl) and school yourself. You'll Thoroughly enjoy it!

I grew up on Bob as my interest was inherrited from my Pops who had All that 70's Jazz Fusion!

Checking out Pemo's work, you'll find he used Bob James a heck of a lot...
In fact, check out a song he did on the same Group Home album called Baby Pa...the Sample during their rap is from another Bob James Track called 'The Golden apple'. Its just too dope the way he's re-triggered the sample to work for the song.

Yo,WDJ...not really surprised...more pleasantly enthused...Its funny coss i just ordered the LONS first 2 albums so was thinking what a maaaad coincidence it was...plus i often listen to Group Home...not for their AMAZING rhyming skillz...but for the Production.....that to me, is when Premo was a DON...I just find him so stale now...but thats just my opinion.

Having said that, premo was one of my earliest influences when getn into this so i have the utmost respect for his work...i just cant dig some of the newer stuff!

Am about to give you another heads up on Bob James but as an aside...MPC4000XL...U by any chance know where Premier took sample from for Return of the Crooklyn Dodgers Featuring Chubb Rock, O.C & Jeru?? I'd LOVE to hear that man!!!

OK...WDJ...so Bob James...That Album entitled One? Wow...where do i start....Check this out...theres this one song called Nautilus....This has to be one of the CORNER STONES of Hip Hop Samplings basis....Call it the 5th Element if u will, within the artform....Check below for a non exhaustive list of all the songs that have used various parts of it....then on top of that...just imagine the Publishing thats been earned off it....MIND BLOWING!!!!
