just a general question here. what compressor setting gives you the best sound you desire?



a generaly good rule is one for percussive sounds (kicks, snares etc) that is to have a slightly slower attack, around 40 - 60 ms, so you capture the attack transient of the drum sound and preserve the 'impact' of it!!! you can also do this for other percussive sounds like slap bass!
f*ck with your compressor settings untill you hear your kick or snare it 'knock', you should know when youve got it rite! and remember not to over compress your drums unless youve got a a nice compressor with alot of character!! theyle sound unnatural!
