ok i got this friend who i WAS workin with, but he always has something to say about the music , if it's not me giving him music it's other people, now i've heard some of the beats that he get's and they are pretty good , but this guy always say's it's not hard enuff (Rugged)or the drums or he dont like the sequencing always something.
now he has done some recording with some people and i have heard some of his recordings,he always sounds the same monotone, he dont put feeling behind what he's saying .
well the other day we got in to it , and he again tells me it's my music but he tells me it's not hard enuff and that it's not what he's lookin for,
so i told him it's not the music ,because there has been other producers that give him some raw ass beats and always has something to say about it,
now i'm not an EMCEE but i have spun a lot of hiphop ,and i have many styles of hiphop and to me if your an emcee, you should be able to rip over anything,RIGHT!!
well i told him if he wants a harrd beat he has to come out with his presentation being hard. he needs to feel whaT he's saying put feeling be hind the words,
now i kno there's some emcee's in here what do you guys think, am i right about the presentation thing, if your an emcee you should be able to rap over any beat right, it's like a dj saying i can't spin on those turntables there not 1200's, THATS BULLSHT, if your a dj you can spin on any thing in front of you.
you dont see Q-BERTor Guru sayin sht like that.
what are your guys opinion or techniques on this, is my technique(if thats what it is) on it's in your presentation correct or what , i'm not an emcee so i dont knno about this but i want to learn,
thanks
peace

Not always cause different beats make you feel different and wack beats make you feel nothing, like you don't even wanna rap to it.

True enough, he should come with enough enthusiam to match the beat that he chooses to flow to.

That's different, lyrics come from within you, tables just spin.

Tell your boy to make his OWN stuff then since he is so picky and finicky.

Or if he is not paying you beatmakers and getting freebies he shouldn't be complaining too much, if he wants to complain make him start payin.

Or tell him to start makin his own stuff since he knows how HARD he wants his stuff. I said that already huh? I've told many emcees that.

Well, I'm an Emcee first and a producer second. I only started making beats 'cause all the sh!t I heard from the "producers" 'round my way was straight garbage.

To answer your question, you are pretty much right. I can rhyme over anything, and my vocals will sound how I want 'em too. I could never blame my rhyming obstacles on the beat unless it was super-choppy stuter styled beats like El-P is fond of making. I write my lyrics with the beat in mind, so if I have a beat that's not raw, I can't really get too raw over it, but that usualy has more to do with the tempo than the actual samples used on the beat. I think he don't sound as good as he wants, and of course there's nothing wrong with his skills (just ask him, he'll tell you  ) so it must be the beats, right? The only time a beat may affect my rhyming besides what I already stated, is if I'm trying to freestyle and I'm not feeling the beat.

well thats what he's been sayin that he's going to by his own stuff to make beats, but he's been saying this for some time now. the yhing is that he cant even show me a beat that he's tryin to get close to, he always say something about a beat even sht on record, these are pro produced songs so what's up,
but i feel you on what u sayin

alright this is what i'm talkin about he does this to me all the time

now if you were to get in a battle how are you going to battle then if you dont feel the beat, i like i said , if a dj was to say this about turntables he would be called a wack dj right, now how bout an emcee, what do you call that,
well this dude took this as me callin him wack.
all i said is he needs to come off with a better presentation ,flow with the beat,

i feel you , then why ask for beats to rhyme over then.
not aimed towrds you science,
but this cat came to me and others and always has someting to say about the beats.
it's one thing to be a grounded artist but if your tryin to make it or get out then you shouldnt be so picky right,

what happen to being versatile.

It's good to be versatile but it's a whole other thing to be good and versatile.I can rhyme over almost anything.Almost but alot of times the beat dictates the flow. When i hear something that sparks me i go straight for the pen and pad.But i'm a Boom-Bap type cat so when i hear something slow/southern i wanna go right to sleep. But that's just what i like.

Anyways,if the kid is that picky just leave him alone and watch how fast he comes runnin' back in a few weeks.

That's a different situation, kinda. I wouldn't blame the mic, or the monitors, just like a DJ wouldn't be able to blame the tables. But if a DJ is battling, he gets to pick his music right? Same thing with an Emcee. If dude doesn't have anything to spin that I wanna spit to, I'll go straight acapella on that sh!t. I won't blame the records being played, I just said the only way it would AFFECT my rhyming is if I was freestyling, I still wouldn't not battle or some sh!t, just harder to get loose on some bullsh!t. But like I said, dude should be able to write some rhymes to whatever, there's no way ALL your sh!t could be incompatible with what he wants. Seems to me like he's just making excuses.
