A ferrite core on the cable is used as shield to protect against EMI's (Electro Magnetic Interference) and RFI's (radio frequency interference).

Nikken give me a little while, been busy last couple of days, I am going today to see if I can get an adaptor for the IDE cable..

I have the Mutec board, no ferrite core on the original cable, not on the floppy drive cable I used to replace it either.
Hasn't given any static probs.

Just curious ripple, why did you have to replace the cable, did you solder it in?
