yea but who has a real 808? I'm on the hunt for one and will never get rid of it! I found one at the local GC for $700 and it was in perfect condition. BUT this kid snatched it right before me, lil bastard!

"yea but who has a real 808? "

I've owned most all the Roland x0x boxes:
MC-202, TB-303 (two of them), TR-505, TR-606/626, TR-707, TR-808 and two TR-909's. I enjoyed using them but maintaining them gets to be a bit difficult. At first it was finding legitimate people to work on them, and one I learned how to fix them myself, it became an issue with getting parts. I've had to part out several machines simply because I could not source a single $5 item. Sp-1200's are good example of this. There are a lot of irreplaceable parts in an SP-1200. It'll make make you grow grey hair really fast to understand that your $1500 piece may never turn on again.

mpc3000 - Do you still have your MC-202? I just bought one a few months ago. That internal sequencer is crazy, but I like the flexibility. I'm still trying to get the hang of it. I got it synced to an MSQ-100 that I snatched up from ebay for $30.
Do you still have the 626? Those machines sound ill when you circuit-bend them. I bought mine specifically for that purpose but I havent had it done up yet. After talking to a few circuit-benders, I might go with this dude... http://www.circuit-bent.com/rmachine.htm

Back to the 808... yeah those samples are still dope as hell, especially the kick. Since the '80s I always loved the 808 sound. I've seen quite a few 808s on ebay, but they been sellin' easily for over $1000 now. At one point they were cheaper than the 909 but everyone wants an 808 just as bad, if not more.

if your track just sound nekked and you dont know what to do drop in some 808 kicks to see you thru. yeah for a minute there i couldnt stop using the dam thing, but without a doubt 808s are the cornerstone of most tracks

yo the 202 sequencer is booty to use, there's a utility that will convert a midi sequence into an audio file you can dump through the tape load input and have it be in the internal sequencer, all the 202 functions translate to some midi stuff so you can program slides and stuff with different midi messages.

It really opens up the 202.

I've read up on the 202 Hack since I started using ReBirth back in '97. The program has evolved and the newer version that's compatible for Windows XP isn't freeware anymore. It would be cool to take all the basslines I've written over the years and try out the 202 Hack, but there's more versatility in the madness of the 202's internal sequencer that I'm really digging deeper into at the moment. I have the original manuals for my 202 (as crazy as the Japanese to English translation is), so I plan to make the most of the internal sequencer. :D
