just got an XL, got som questions.

when u sample, whats the best value to set for the treshhold?

When u record like drumhits in, do u have to record 1 type of sound at a time? or can u hit multiple pads and have them go into different tracks?

normally I use the default threshold unless I have a really low sound that I need, then I will set it to a lower threshold.

multiple tracks can not be recorded at the same time. hitting multiple pads will put the samples on the same track.

Whatever really. I just set it to zero and hit record just before the sound I want kicks in. And then fine tune it by messing with the start / end points of the sound in the trim screen.

I can answer the first part, but don't get what you mean in the second half of that q... I'm guessing you're talking about when you want to take two drum sounds from the same song (like the kick and the hi hat, or hat and snare etc). Record each sound individually, or record them together and seperate them in the mpc, which there are a few ways to do; if the osund is a kick and hi hat recorded together, make the start and end points so that you get say the kick, then copy the sound and adjust the start and end points so you get the hat only. Or you could use the zone function to split up the sample into two sections (kick and hat).

but
what you can do is record your multiple pads to one track and then copy them to various tracks and then delete the unwanted sounds from various tracks...now you will have one sound per track....

ait, I thougt of that. but is there an ease (fast) way to do that? like paste/copy way, can ju like copy a whole bar or more and then paste it? o do u have to copy each sound in the step edit mode?

Thats the only way I do it and its pretty fast when you know your buttons....I know that it XL has "multi recording" but I've never messed with that...I just use my method....

hehe ok, maybe it just takes training,,.. :-p

the multi recording in the mp is that no for just like midi devices?

Why not just copy the whole track. Then delete the unwanted sounds on each track in step edit?

Record the sequence how I want it and press “EDIT”. On the COPY FROM side, set the start and end time to the beginning and end of the sequence. On the COPY TO side set the TRACK to where I want the particular drum to go.

Just tap the snare and press DO IT. Go back to the track with all the drums again and press EDIT set a new destination in the TRACK field, tap the hi hat and press do it. Do this for each drum or instrument, and then delete the entire original track.

Seems much faster and if you have your tracks pre-named it saves you the trouble of having to rename them. Plus it would be quicker than deleting unwanted sounds from copied tracks, in step edit no less. (Why not use the erase button?)

or jus sequence/record each sound individually....its probably easier anyway! Its especially easy on the MPC!

Hey man. i know everyone develops their own way.. i have found for me it works to just do the kick and snare on one track.. (some peeps like me like the feel of the boom bap together for feel) and dont do any more recording on that track if you can help it.. put hats .. seperate kicks and snares or layers on diff tracks so all you have to copy and edit is the kick and snare track you did together.. but do what works for u.. most important is what FEELS best for u to get the right groove... i then copy the kick snr track and delete one then the other in ODUB mode by pressing ERASE and the sound i want to erase..
