I never tell anyone I'm looking for drums or samples for two reasons. First, a lot of record store dudes are snobby about that **** and won't help you out as much and second it does drive the price up. But its cool to be to tell em what you're looking for if they ask -- a lot of time they got that **** behind the counter. But don't say "I'm looking for drums," say instead "I'm really into African Jazz -- I've been listening to this one Hugh Maskella record, do you have anything like it?" Most of these guys know their rekkids, the ones that don't are the crazy ones who charge ten dollars for anything. They should be avoided.
Also, the more knowledge you come in with, the more owners are willing to depart with some of theirs.
