A studio I used to work at was next to a record shop. The owner was awesome, he'd let me and a couple other guys borrow anything we wanted to sample as long as he got it back in a couple days. It was nice while it lasted.

Man VS Machine wrote:Yeah, I started talking to one cat who works at a spot I dig at. I told him that I was a new born and that I just bought a portable. He let me kinda bumb my head on a couple of **** records but the more I went to that spot the more he would show and teach me how to dig. Finely He asked me what kind of music I was into he started puting me on to some hot joints infact he sold me Bob James 1,2,3 and 4 four 25 bills. Come to find out that this cat is well respected in my local digin community.

Yo 4000 what you said is kinda true and not true. There are definately record store jocks who are trying to rip you off, but most record store owners are cool. Think about it, you have to really love music to open a record store. Most people who love music want to spread it around. They'll hook you up if you talk to them and learn some things from them.

I never tell anyone I'm looking for drums or samples for two reasons. First, a lot of record store dudes are snobby about that shit and won't help you out as much and second it does drive the price up. But its cool to be to tell em what you're looking for if they ask -- a lot of time they got that shit behind the counter. But don't say "I'm looking for drums," say instead "I'm really into African Jazz -- I've been listening to this one Hugh Maskella record, do you have anything like it?" Most of these guys know their rekkids, the ones that don't are the crazy ones who charge ten dollars for anything. They should be avoided.

Also, the more knowledge you come in with, the more owners are willing to depart with some of theirs.

i bought a record store cause lots of staff in shops are assholes.
i bought it because i love music and i dont want shit when i look for freshies. i like it when people come and have a scratch but i also like it when peole buy 3 inches af vinyl.

its the laws of business but we do well cause the store is relaxed.

not all store owners are dickheads. i am but i am sure not all of us are.

this is mine but dont buy anything, you will just winge at the price
