Using the MP as a controller in Logic Express 7.1...

Has anyone tried this and accomplished it?

I really would like to set it up so that I can control the drums in Stylus...

Any tips?

The MPC can be used as a MIDI controller but a lot of people say it's better to just buy one. I'm not sure if you can control the drums in stylus though.

When I opened Logic Pro and assigned the outs on the MPC, it automatically triggered the drums in Ultrabeat, so Stylus should be the same. Just make sure you set up your MPC in the Audio/Midi setup in OS X.

When setting up Express, I did register the MP as one of the devices that I would possibly be using. Is this what you're referencing?

Also, although this might be pushing, were you able to use note repeat or the full velocity option?

Yes and yes. Theoretically, any midi controller with a midi out should work as long as it's set up. Maybe check the logic forums at Apple.

Yes, full velocity just sends every note out with a velocity value of 127. For the note repeat to work properly, The MPC would have to be running, and synced to logic. But you probably wanted to have them both synced anyway.

Just hook up the midi cable, make sure the MPC sends the notes and that's it. You might want to make a chromatic midi notes program in the MPC because the default is some stupid 'general midi' drum kit arrangement. Or you could conform to this at the receiving end.
