Got some questions about making beats with 2000xl...

I'm a former mpc60 owner and I´ve been using software for my productions for quite a while now, but I'm thinking of going hardware soon. I still havent decided for the 2000xl or 1000 but I'm leaning towards 2000xl. Please help me deciding by enlightening me.

One of my biggest questions is about the lack of EQ, let's say you find a nice sample but it has some unwanted bass in it. Are you stranded with that bass or can you use a highpassfilter or something, or does it only has lowpass??

And another question is how you all record your beats into the pc when you are done with them. Do you multitrack record every sound into each channel and mix them in cubase/logic/protools? And if you dont have 8outs do you record each sound by muting the others etc.? Then it must be easiest to only record everything in loops and sequencing it on the pc? Otherwise you'll have to wait for every sound to be play, say 3min * say 16 sounds = way to long time...

2000xl with the extra fx board alow you to use a 4 band eq that work really well to me.
To bounce my beat on the computer is used to mutlitrack,but i'll stop that because it always sound different from the one shot(single track) out of the mpc. Now i just it record in soundforge and use the song mode from the mpc and make a live one track recording,i love that.
For multitrack bounce you just got to have a good sound card with multiple in, so you can bounce 8 tracks simultaneously on the pc.
You also got to buy the mpc "eights out" board for the 2000xl cuz's it's not built'in.

Alright so if I need to have that fx board then. But it doesnt have compression does it? To me compression is quite important.

Just get yourself some outboard effects, you don't need all the effects to be built into your sampler, as generally quality is only medium at best.

In my opinion, no studio should be without a 'real' mixer with good quality eq and at least one good quality hardware compressor.

Once again it depends on what you wanna sound like, crispy madlib style or cristal clear Dr dre style.(just for exemple)

I think if you're used to using software, the 1000 is the better choice. It has USB capabilities, card reader and is cheaper. If you can do all your editing and post-sequencing effects in software (or outboard hardware, like tutor said), and you're only using the MPC to sequence, you don't really need all the power of the 2000xl. Just my $0.02

Yep Use The 8 outs IF Ya Got Them IF NOT Get A RACK EQ And EQ Before You Sample ..................
