ok I think i'm gettin the hang of it or the idea of it all..

i finally had a 2nd day to play around wit my mpc1k....

i'm still readin the manual as well, chapt. 4 now right here!!!

i got some quick questions for yall....

1. the way you make a beat is it like this.. u start a new program.. and in this program you have the tracks. track 1 is drums, track 2 is sample and track 3 horns.. and so on and so on, is that correct?

2. to make y0ur drums sound like a "beat" you have to bang em out? aka you need some kind of musical know how to make them sound musical? ir that correct? i mean jus tappin n pressin the pads DOES not make em sound at all like a drum track? any tips n ideas on that part of the beat makin?

3. where does the sequence stuff come in? i mean i go programs i see that.then in tracks i see what parts make up the beat? but up at the top i don't understand the sequence field?

i've alwasy loved the drum parts in songs n i always thought it was mad simple and basic but NOW that i have to make my own i'm findin it ain't that easy.... or is it?

4. i have a sample its like 4 seconds, track 1 is drums i want sample to be track 2, how do i make it loop throught the track?

5. is there a site that explains bars? how to count em? in lay mens terms for us newbies. that are..uhm slow....

thats all I Got for now..i mean i got the dope samples to make hot beats..but the main thing holdin me down right now again is the drum part of the track..

hmm thats alot of questions.
bars equal the lengt of the musical passage.1 2 3 4 1 2 3 4 the 1 is the beginning of the bar so count like ONE two three four ONE two three etc.

as far as making tracks its totally up to you. i do mine this way track 1 bass drum track 2 snare track three snare hard and so on that way i have totall control over each sound.

if your using phrases or sample loops thats a little harder to do you have to make sure your loops fit in the bars perfectly.

as far as making beats and musical know how.. it helps but isnt manditory. what you do need is a sense of rythm and timing.

a sequence is just a beat.. think of it that way. sequence 1 is the beat you made at lets say, 4/4 time thats 2 bars long. sequence 2 is a beat you made at lets say 3/3 time thats 3 bars long. simple as that.

your 4th question makes no sense to me so meybe someone else can field it

i have dope sample from some vinyle... its this like kid smaple sayin whooo i ammmmm, I amm meeeeeeeee, its like 3 seconds long tops... but i want that to play THROUGHT my entire beat..... aka i would assume i need to loop it...

i want that as track #2 in my pgrm,

how do i loop that?

ok, lemme try...

Best way to 'loop' something on this mpc IMHO, is not exactly to loop it, but to get your sample, and sequence it so it plays over and over again.

So,
-get your kid sample into the machine as a sample
-assign the sample to a pad in a program
-get a blank track, put that program on it
-get your beat going, say it's 2 bars long or something (ie. the sequence loop is set to 2 bars)
-go into overdub mode
-at the right time, bang the pad that has the kid sample

-now you should hear it play over and over, always starting at the place where you triggered it the first time.

Now you gotta worry about getting the timing right and getting things to line up, but that's another story...

That's totally just a rough overview. You should also trim the sample end, set the program to 'monophonic', and generally f** with things to get em sounding right.

Or if you have trouble making the loop fit, chop up the words and put each one on a separate pad and make that shyt fit. Look in manual under extract.

Bro, you asked a few to many questions for me, I would just say, you'll get the hang of it much quicker than you think. The manual will answer most of the questions you have right now. Plus if you spend a lot of time just playing around on it, you'll master the basics in a month or three.
