Where do the likes of Timbaland, Kanye, Dre

i'd be even willing to put money down that the "top" producers have their own sample sets that they've created - just having session drummers come in with different kits mic'ed in various ways.

with all of the processing options available to the producer you can make your drums sound like anything you want...

Maybe but I'm sure the "top" producers as you put it still use samples from vinyl. If you don't think so you are trippin "kid"

nah i dont think dre samples from vinal. he might re-produce a peice. but its obvious he dont sample str8 from vinal. thogh he used to bak in the NWA days.

he does sample a lot! so youre saying other folks sample vinyl for dre? dont think so... i think he uses the tables like any other samplehead

believe it or not they use the same drums we use,but the difference is how there processed.we process our own, the aliens process theirs...

I know Dre likes to use his drums over and over and process them differently each time. He just keeps a library, and he likes to have access to lots of drum sounds at any time, which is why he uses 5 MPCs. Where did he get those sounds? He probably doesn't even remember, because they didn't all come from the same place. Some sounds might be sampled from records, others recorded from real drums, maybe some even came straight from sample CDs or modules. Some might be re-sampled layers of his own sounds that came back off tape through the SSL.

Isn't that how everybody works? I just keep some good drum samples on a disk, and sample everything else fresh from vinyl for each track. You don't want to spend an hour going through records each time you want a simple hi-hat, a nice sharp clap, or an 808 kick.
