Yo why is that people think anticon is gay? I slept on them for a minute because I thought they had something to do with Sage Francis and I hate his music very much. But when I heard them finally everything was dope as long as they don't try to rap.

jel and sixtoo both have the best drums in my opinion, most well chosen samples and best ghosting/placement. they have elevated the art of drum programming faaaar beyond boom bap. much can be learned from them. listen to "Soft Atlas Side" for the drum programming by 13 and God, that's some of Jel's hat work at its best.

off subject - for the record, sole is a good lyricist. and doseone is beyond amazing. you just have to "wake up" to him. the whole "anticon is gay" thing is a reaction against a tangent that hip hop is inevitably moving toward as the music is more widely assimilated from culture to culture. nothing to be afraid of, and a lot of good is coming out of it, even if the beginning steps sound weird and beef gets thrown about like we were in a slaughterhouse.

i like el-p's drums, too. just not as much. he's the master of the offbeat, and i love it.

the roots, also, for sure. they're badass. there are tons more.

worst drum programming - anything "crunk"...ie simplified machine gun hats and unlayered preset samples. not to say i refuse to be impressed, rather i just have not been impressed yet.

yeah. i think most of there shit is wack. Dose one needs to be karate choped in the neck. And that buttfuc*er buck 65 needs a good beating also. But most of anticons and there producers shit was too wierd for my liking. they did have some aight shit though.

i understand the resistance to dose and buck. i think it's best to come at buck not from a hip hop perspective. he's mostly a storyteller. hell, the man's in his 40s, he's canadian, and the first "rapper"he heard was a 79 year old auctioneer when he was 12. he comes from a different world, and so he makes a different music. as a writer of fiction, poetry AND rap lyrics, i am blown away by his narrative ability and his character perspective.

as for dose, i see him as the tom watts of hip hop. weird ass voice and loosely tied to the musical world at best. you either like him or you dont, and i like him because i see his vocal doubling/syllable patterns as before his time.

another great drum producer would have to be rza. the drums on "method man" have for ages been among my favorites....
