there is a picture of dre's setup with the sh!tload of 3000s in the scratch magazine interview...

Yes, you already know? Well instead of lining up some "old news" replies after this post, take a second look at the pictures...

..yes you're eyes are not lyin', it truthfully is a copy of Dusty Fingers!

Dre has been around for a long time. Therefore I bet he has endless boxes full of discs with drums on em he collected over the years of his career. Dozens of em are probably outdated and are no longer put into use. He probably checks on comps (like dusty fingers...) and lesser known LPs (good way to find "new" sounds), to find out about some new stuff and also, as already said, layers and edits drums on his console and other outboard gear.

Off track answer would be: He makes Melman dig for him ;)
Just bringin some more info to the pot.

p.s.:the issue of DF being in dre's lab has already been discussed in various boards: vinylvulture / strictlybreaks / you name it

The Chronic is soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much samplebased :?
I have this other album wich has tracks dre used for sampling.. I mean Oh My... Does he lose some of my respect :(

I can not lose respect for discovering samples that someone who uses a sampler sampled.....

dre came up munipulated samples to create a new composition( check "EFIL4ZAGGIN")

dre doesn't lose respect from me...thaz like losing respect for quincy jones cuz he didn't write or play most of the songs he produced.....after you put a cat like dre so high on a petalstool it is natural to fish for reasons to lose respect for the man.....

Dre looses respect cuz he samples?
kanye, premier?? all of us?? ain't that what hip hop was all about??
u crazy??
u don't wanna sample, then dont!! It's up to you. if u are that good.. but look here.. music is sampling. u work with the notes and chords that u learned from somebody! U thing u makin something new when u put some notes 2gether, and some chords... actually u just making a different composition with the same old notes, chords, scales.
music is a puzzle. the pieces are already on the table. u choose how they go together. even if it sounds new, it is not!!!!!!

When the scientists finally figured out how to decode the data on the discs what did they find? That's right incredible drum sounds. You can imagine the U.S. government wanted to keep these tight drums under wraps (the fifties just wasn't ready). They made an exception, due to all the suffering the african americans endured they paid reperations, in the form of the alien drum samples. The samples were divided between the east coast, west coast, the south and the midwest. Kanye West's hand claps, Dr. Dre's Kicks, and all the drum sounds from the tr-808 (except the cowbell) and more all came from that ship.

Strange indeed but true none the less.

WUHAHUAHUAHUAHUAHUAHUA You killing me man! whuaha
