Need a new sequencer any suggestions?

Im currently using Pro Tools but for a year now Ive had so many problems with it that Im now giving it up...
It keeps saying reduce the buffer size and when I do that it says to increase it over and over again. Ive had thre different computers and Im currently using a laptop with a 40 gig harddrive, 512 ram and its a P4.

And Im still having the same problems.
I just need a program thats stable so I can record on. Thats all I use pro tools for. I like pro tools because its easy to navigate. I dont use midi everything is analog.

I purchased a mixer from alesis and it gave me cubase le for free. But I cant hear my fantom or mpc thru the mixer when I use cubase.
So are there any programs thats close to pro tools?

get another 512 of ram. CEP crashes sometimes on my PC, and I got a gig of ram and a 3.2gig pentium 4. Music applications eat up a LOT of processing power.

Cool Edit Pro. You can download a demo for free I think. Adobe owns it now and calls it Adobe Audition.

I never used pro tools, so I dont know if its similar. I use it for multi-tracking, mixing and mastering. Seems to work great for me so far, but I may suck at these things, yuo never know Anyway, you can find the demo on-line (Cool Edit Pro 2.0) and if you like it PM me and I'l tell you where to get hooked up. Go buy Cubase SE for $100. CEP only does destructive wav editing. Cubase and Sonar do none destructive wav editing. CEP sucks and is played out. No midi editing and if im not mistaken it doesnt record in 24bit / 96khz. Get cubase or cakewalk home studio and get a better bang for your buck IMO.

CEP rcords in 16, 24, or 36 bit. I have no clue what "Destructive WAV" means, but sh!t sounds as good when it is recorded as when it's playing out of my MPC. Besides, I think FREE is better than $100 dollars ANYDAY. I get fine results, played out or not (played out? Why, because how old it is? It's newer than the 2000xl, and my MPC is no where near played out. I think he's straight with pro tools, as it's better than any of the software we mentioned, but I think his problem is his PC, not his software, so I would think spending another $100 to have his sh!t crach over and over would be frustrating.

Sounds like you need a new multitracker not sequencer. Have you optimized your laptop for PT? Recording to the internal 4200rpm hd isnt a good idea. All of the apps mentioned will get the job done, being that your used to PT I'm pretty sure you wont really feel any of 'em, PT is just so much easier to use imo.

i agree pro tools is the easiest to use but it crashes too many times..
ive had 3 different computers and 3 different version of PT and I get the same results evrytime......

Either I get a message telling me to decrease the buffer thenwhen I decrease 2 minutes later it stops and says to increase and vice versa...

then sometimes when I record the sound gets distorted....
So I have to close and re-open alot..

could be a lot of things, hardware conflicts or as I said earlier you havn't optimized your pc to work with PT. What are the specs on your computer? Motherboard, processor, etc
