ok i read and read thru threads,and i searched on the net,and i found alot of stuff on the net BUT i seriously cant understand Limiting,i can understand compression and EQ'in i cant go in depth on em but i understood (kinda) whut its talkin about i know whut limiting is,but i dont know the depth?? ok if you had Big Syke(dud that was with Pac) soundin voice how would you work around that? like any pointer,tips,or juss lamen's terms? please, and thnx to any help..


OH and after i mixed down the track would i want to limit the whole track?

Think of limiting like an adjustable ceiling in your house and let's say that the highest peak of your .wav file is your head. The closer you lower the ceiling, not only does your head get closer, but everything else gets closer too. However, once the ceiling actually hits your head, things start to get uncomfortable. Even though technically you could continue to lower it, you're not going to want to.

Limiting is mainly used in mastering. Using a limiter, if you lower the "sound ceiling" by between -1dB to -3dB (anymore than that and you will usually "hit your head"), it effectively increases the volume of the song as a whole with no clipping or distortion.

Compression and EQ on vocals.

Multiband compression, Parametric EQ, and Limiting on the mix.

Basically it's a Compressor with a ratio of 8:1 or Higher, I believe.

Actually there are compressors specifically made as limiters and are easy to configure as such. I like the Waves L1 Ultramaximizer+, personally .

that L-1 whut do u work around for vocals?
