Faster Beats Per Minute 90bpm verses 180

Hey'all

I've heard it a million times and often experimented wth the concept, but I just dont know: why make beats on a MPC at 180 beats per minute. what do the established producers get out this?

What are the techniques they use when making drum beats at 180bpm?

Also are they using step editing, recording their beats live, or both at 180 bpm?
