Using Amps In Junction with MPC

does anybody do this?

I'm about to grab a fender bass amp and a small vox box both with line outs.

I was just wondering, since using a guitar or bass amp can really colour the sound of your samples........and it can really add character to the keyboard synth guys..so all of your stuff doesn;t sound so naked going straight into the mixer


any suggestions/comments?

Do it, it'll sound awesome. Playing with guitar pedals is fun too.

do it. and make sure the bass amp is cranked right up. and mic the cabs. and have fun.

I wouldnt do it, I mean I'd try it but I dunno if it'd sound that great - the amp is made for processing low frequency signals, not a music mix??

All I know is I tried throwing my stereo thru my guitar amp once and it sound like crap - it was mono too.

trust me people run synths through amps and pedals all the time.

Synths, yes. Certain samples, like guitar, yes.
But, drums are prolly gonna sound like shtt going through that.
Maybe if you put the MPC through the amp, but also run a dry signal at the same time, you could get something interesting.

Drums will sound awesome, record everything then put the track together from the bits you like. Some things will sound better clean, some better from the gtr amp, some from the bass.

Folks who say it will sound like s$it haven't spent enough time experimenting. I quite frequently use anything from old guitar stomp boxes to the 4k's onboard distortion on drum samples. In fact, not too long ago I ran the output from an MPC60 thru a tube screamer on a piece for Coke CO. They kept the drums and had me rework the whole piece around them. If you add a patch bay(s) and mixer inserts to your setup, you're more likely to try different combinations and come up with some really bangin' beats...Think outside the box...Also to avoid that "Naked" sound, compression and some light reverb always help (Plate verbs are great for percussion). EQ if you are using individual outs can help seat the kick, snare and hats in the mix.

when using a Bass amp or any amp....

Use it on the Kick.....
Bass......
And synths to warm them up..
Snare i use only when I need punch...

Use an sm57 as your mic and direct cable in if you can and mix the two signals..

i hook up a roland kc150 keyboard amp to one output. Then I connect my best mic. I like to run different sound through it.

drums, guitar & synth mainly.


I also record scratches that way
sounds great.
