About that infamous 60 hum.....

So I was reading a few posts about MPC60 noise coming from around the power supply area. There was a thread about how to fix it. Off top, I'm not comfortable with attempting such things to be honest. But my 60 does make a noise similar to the one I read about. Upon further analysis it seems that it does not affect the sound output in any way. So, other than the obvious annoyance are there any other reasons this noise should be of concern??

I thought the hum was coming from the screen.

I wouldn't worry about it or mess with it if I were you. If you're not a technician you don't want to be messing with power supplies. Dangerous stuff.

...just curious, I can live with it, after a decent test I can say I like the 60 sound. I'll lump a little hardware noise to have a classic in my arsenal. I'm just worried about long term effects, or if it does truly affect the sound outputs at all.

I haven't noticed any effect on the sound output whatsoever. I'm just living with it. I only really notice it when I'm editing samples or whatever and have no other audio running.

I doubt there are any long-term effects I suspect that it's just a superficial problem.

is it a hum or a whine? Hum usually means your backlight is old, if you pop a new bachlight in it goes away or goes down in volume, if its a whine it's just annoying, the whine should be close to the locate controls, put your ear there and see if it's loudest there.

No real danger, just can be annoying, I posted my fix in the archives and I'll do it for anyone who sends me their inverter board and $50.

I guess it's a high pitch hum, probably what you have described prior Elmac. Don't think it's the screen the beast came with one of those blue lit-up 3000 type screens and the contrast is flawless, so I don't suspect that. I'll take word from old boy and yourself and not worry about it.

Anyway, I was dumping drum patterns of a kick, snare, etc. into Protools last night and with the unit powered down I couldn't hear the noise on playback when I looped up silence in between drum hits. What can I say??...I overthink things sometimes ......

yeah it's accoustic, not at the outputs, just be careful if sampling with a mic.
